Porsche Museum: Acconodation / Hotel / B&B recommendations

PCGB run a couple of factory tours each year and always stay at the Hotel Adler in Asperg (google "adler-asperg" for their website)
It's a 10 minute drive away, in a nice little town. PCGB have been going there for donkeys years and I think Porsche also use it when they need to accommodate visitors to the factory.
It's a nice enough hotel, friendly people and recently refurbished.
Incidently - if you are a real Porsche nut you can drive past the house where Ferdinand Porsche used to live

It's a specific stop on the tube/train system, I stayed in the middle of Stuttgart to enjoy the nightlife which is really good. So anywhere in the city centre would suit, will dig out the details hotel I stayed at.
Do the Mercedes Museum as well if you get chance, also a stop on the tube/train system and well worth it

Was the Hotel I stayed at, Four Star, just did bed and breakfast.
Its a 10 min walk into heart of city centre for pubs clubs and resturants, and 5 min walk from a tube/train station which you can get trains to/from airport, Porsche and Mercedes really enjoyed Stuttgart as a city.
Porsche museum is awesome but very much about the cars. In a good way obviously!
Mercedes is a bigger museum and has more detail about the history of the company than compared to Porsche, which is very interesting. When I went they had the G-wagen demonstration rig outside, well worth 5 euros for a passenger ride if its still there.
Hotel has underground parking but I didn't need it as I flew over and just used the trains. Hope that helps

When we were in Stuggart we stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn (Mercedesstrasse 75) opposite the Merc museum which had an underground car park.
Definitely a place to visit (possibly stay) is the Meilenwerk facility which is out of town but they have a V8 hotel. Car nuts paradise as its a storage facility for new/old cars but you are allowed to wonder around as they are all in glass containers

I spend about 20 nights a year in Hotel Nestor in Ludwigsburg, which is not bad and around 20 mins drive to Zuffenhausen.
Or alternatively use Arcotel Camino which is downtown opposite the train station. With underground parking and a similar travel time to Zuff.
Both not bad service and quality...

I stayed at Le Méridien, you can sometimes get a good deal on price and it has parking.
Meilenwerk is worth a visit, especially if there is a car show on there. It's in Böblingen.

Just 15Km south of the Museum is the old Solitudering racetrack (off the Autobahn at Leonberg). Closed down since 1966, and now a public road, it is still a pleasure to drive round and identify the significant curves and landmarks. One of which ist the Start/Finish straight with its landmark Bosch timing tower - and the Glemseck Hotel.

This last weekend the course was opened for the bianual Solitude Revival - a magnificent event. Have to wait another two years now, but....
The Glemseck Hotel is worth a look. Every Sunday morning half of south west Germany´s bike and a few exotic cars descend on the place for a few hours of shared enthusiam. Get yourself a roadside table in the sun and just soak up the atmosphere...

At the other end of the 11Km course is the Hotel Schatten - again right on the circuit - the Schatten double -S curves are a joy to drive and almost as much fun to sit at and watch them being enjoyed.

Typically for the Schwabisch locals - neither Hotels really capitalise on the motorsport goldmine that they reside upon. It really is something of a hidden treasure.

Can you say a little more about the emissions sticker as I'm passing through with the family in Aug and plan to do museum, and the family wagon is not in the slightest bit green!Txs

Stuttgart and a few other German cities require you to display a sticker confirming that you car isn't a polluter. Unless you're driving an old banger there shouldn't be a problem getting one but you will need your V5 form and will have to visit on of the issuing centres. Am away at the moment so can't give you the address of the one that we went to bu there is a website listing them
Failure to display can mean a fine if they pick you up on the cameras but would they bother with a uk car ??
