Pagid RS29 pads squealing solved

Hi all,
Thought I would post a new thread so people searching can pick it up easier. My Noble has pagid rs29 pads front and back and they work great, but the squealing when coming to a stop was unbearable. So much so that I was actually about to replace then with a softer pad.
I tried copper slipping the edges and the back plates to no avail, also chamfering the pad edges also with no effect.
Finally got it to be 95% better by fitting universal anti squeal shims from eBay which are only 0.5mm thick, and with a proper pad spreader tool got it all to fit properly, worth a try for the £8 it cost before you replace your pads if the noise its driving anyone else insane.
Odd thing is that some people have no squealing with no special effort, lucky people!

Wow. That is quite a small cost for a great solution to a diabolically annoying problem.
I have Carbotech XP8 front pads and they squeal at low speeds especially around town. I spent well over £100 on some custom shims and some special 'paste' all to no avail!
Might check out ebay for the shims you're talking about

They are just self adhesive things, being four pots we need a set per caliper to adequately cover the piston areas. Just cut them to size with scissors and then clean the pad and slap them on.
The seller was called brakesint, they were made by Bremtech, item number was 330807449914. It was actually £9.98 for two sets delivered (so enough for one axle, i did manage to get enought together from the offcuts to do the rear pads, but i would recommend a second set of shims instead)

I bought brand new shims, machined especially from a company that specialises in them and used Ceratec anti squeal paste. None of the above worked.
But wonder if the shims help me brake on track as they don't really fade!
I think the pads squeal because the light braking pressures on the road cause the pad face to glaze up , if I do a few road miles the squeal comes back then a day on track and it disappears !!!
Try a couple off big stops from high speed but if you have drilled disc this might not work .

It's something to do with AP calipers
Research all based on Carbotech XP8 pads.
My brother's Evo 6 Extreme has massive AP calipers and grooved discs (like Tux's race style cuts / grooves) and his squeal terribly.
My Noble has AP calipers and drilled discs and they are silent when thrashed on track but squeal as soon as they are hot in town at low speeds.
My Impreza P1 had large Alcon calipers and grooved discs and from day 1, two years on not a peep out of the pads. On track, around town you name it they were quiet as a mouse.
Go figure.
