Hi, i work at a company in Sheffield called quarry motors which specializes in BMW's. So with all this at my feet i thought why not build a unique BMW. I always wanted to buy a BMW 1M and i really like the V8 engine from the E92 M3 so i thought why not combine them both together and this is what i ended up with.

I read the feature of this in Total BMW, it possibly stands out to be one of the most unique 1 series I've yet to see.

The fact that is all OEM too, is even better

Excellent.. do you have a build log, I would be more interested in seeing how you shoehorned it in and the technical issues you faced?

Hi everyone, iv managed to dig some of the build pictures out from what i took and there's also a couple of ones from the new build i am currently doing which is an exact replica of a BMW 1M as i bought one of the first few that had been crashed so im just in the process of re-shelling the full thing,

The build for the BMW V8 1M took me around 4 months to complete. I started with a E82 which was a 118D M sport but the car had suffered light water damage so when deciding to strip the car down i thought it would make a good shell to start the conversion, once i stripped the car down i bought the full BMW 1M kit from BMW's main dealers and then replaced the full back wings in order to fit the new running gear. In order to get everything i needed i had to buy two BMW M3's as when you buy them as salvage one end of the car tends to be missing so the hardest part was finding two m3's that had sustained damage at the opposite ends, ( one was a fire damaged M3 which was perfect for the axles as they remained straight and one was a barrel rolled one so it had all of the necessary ecu's and so on). I then bought another E82 so i could use the modules and components from it as the ones from the water damaged shell was no good. When i had everything i needed, i started the build by having the back wings replaced with the 1M wings and then sent the shell away to be painted by auto body shop in Sheffield. Once i got it back the real work had to start, i began with the engine as i thought that it would be the make or brake of the project. After a few hours i managed to get the engine to sit in place and made sure all the necessary supports and strengtheners where in place as i wanted this car to feel solid and to feel like it was built by BMW them self's. Once in place i next began with the gear box and back axle, as you can imagine there is not a great deal of room so this became the next mission. I then mounted the 1M suspension so i could get the car rolling and bring it off the ramp to begin the wiring and modules task. When this was all complete and i had the first opportunity to start the car ( after a few hours of coding ) it became one of the best moment i had through out the build knowing that the project wasn't going to be a no go. Once i had a little celebration i got to work with paneling the rest of the car and adding the full interior, when the car was finally built i then designed my own exhaust around the akrapovic design and then took it to Exhaust uk in Sheffield to build as i wanted a switchable exhaust, so it would go from loud to proud.

Iv built around 15 to 20 damaged repairable cars since the age of 16 and I love doing this as a hobby, but the 1M V8 has definitely been my favorite to build. The thing I love the most is that the marjority of the people from the main agents, who knew i was building this project, told me that it would not work. Therefore overall i believe by completeing this project at the age of 23, it has been a good achievement.

I have several friends trying to talk me into buying this, as I'm torn between the M3 and 1M...

Just not sure how something so unique will fair with depreciation...

What would be really interesting, not saying your build isn't op, is a back to back road and track comparison of this and a 1M as BMW intended.
