Had them on my puma. They were pretty good for a budget tyre, never had any problems with grip dry or wet. They are very much a road tyre.

So are they on par with a Falken 452 or Toyo T1R.

Demon Tweaks are selling them as road legal track day tyres.

I had them on a 335d and rated them highly.
Only drawback is the noise which can sound like a wheel bearing is going on some road surfaces, which is typical of some tyres with this V pattern.

Echo nottyash's comments. Had them on my 5 series. They were good for budget tyres, but road noise was terrible in my opinion

I switched a pair out for kuhmo's ku31 (I think) which were better in every way for same price point

These were 225/50/17

I think they are more midrange than budget. I've got them on now after having 2 full sets of Hankook Ventus Evo and a pair of Kumho KU39s. I prefer the Maxxis out of the 3.

- Grip seems pretty much the same for all three, the Maxxis do seem to squirm less under load (but that might just be my wider wheels and having run winter wheels and tyres with a slightly higher profile before fitting them)
- Kumhos only lasted 60% of the time of the Hankooks.
- Can't really comment on road noise as the wind noise on my car is bad.

Of all the budget brands, Maxxis are up there with the best. They seem to get really good reviews too, but with the odd howler thrown in, which means there could still be either variable quality on the market, or old DOT codes floating about. Make sure whatever you get is a fresh tyre.

They're certainly not a trackday tyre.

Thanks it`s it safe to have V pattern on the front and standard on the rear ? I`1ve been very happy with the falken 452`s but need to replace the rears .. falken 452`s are finished , Falken 453`s have good reports but have a completely different tread .

Other than that I can ether fit the maxxis or Toyo T1R`s on the rear .. Why did they mad for the V pattern ?.

It's not ideal, but as long as you're not mixing patterns on the same axle it'll be ok.

Nearly all tyres are moving away from the V, largely for OE and noise requirements.

The T1R has been replaced with the T1 Sport which is asymmetric.
The Uniroyal Rainsport 2 is being replaced with the 3, which is asymmetric.
Falken FK452 to FK453
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta to Vorti
Avon ZZ3 to ZZ5
etc

I'd put money on Maxxis next range of tyres being asymmetric as they're becoming more grown up by the day.

What are the advantages of the V pattern .

Another confusing thing is the Falken 245/40/17 has a section width of 250mm but the 245/45/17 has a section width of 238mm..

How can this be when both are 245`s.

Had a set on my old Mk2 Focus RS with 416bhp, I was very impressed with them inc a Ring trip with low 9 min BTGs.

245 is a nominal dimension, not an actual dimension.

The advantage of the V pattern when they first came out were claimed to be better performance in deep water.
