RE: BMW M4 'revealed'?

BMW M4 pics leaked (update!)

BMW M4 'leaked' with more pics ahead of Monterey debut for supposed concept

UPDATED WITH ADDITIONAL PHOTOS, 2115h

We wait ages for a snippet of information on the BMW M4, then there are two in just a few days; following the short engine sound clip earlier this week, the first alleged image of the M3 replacement has now surfaced.

So what does it tell us? Well, the power dome of the outgoing M3 remains even though the V8 doesn't, as does the carbon roof. The front bumper is noticeably more aggressive than the standard 4 Series with the foglights deleted and a jutting black splitter is just visible too. The trademark M wing mirrors can also be seen. Overall, from the front, it's a typical M Division overhaul; aggressive and potent without being too ostentatious.

For now, that's all the new information we have. No more news on the straight-six turbocharged engine beyond general acceptance of a c. 450hp power output, or the rumours of a significant weight reduction. BMW is most definitely playing the long game on this one. It probably won't have a manual gearbox though...

The M4 Coupe Concept is likely to debut at The Quail motorsport event during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this week. That should finally reveal some concrete details on what promises to be a very exciting M car.

That bonnet is bloody awful! What do you need a power bulge for on a turbo straight-6? Pointless.

I think it's just another render - unlikely they would put a front splitter on a 'standard' M Car - they'll leave that for the CSL (if they do one).
Also, the mirrors don't look quite right and there are no vents on the hood.

Best to wait for an official release before judging I think...

Erm aesthetics ... ?

No road car needs a power bulge really but when they've incorporated them on both incarnations of the M3 since and including the E46, the car may look less-aggressive without one.

I agree, front wings don't look like they've been touched either. And I agree with the comment RE: the power bulge, think this a fan mock-up - all be it a pretty and well made one.

Time will tell.

I hope it is different enough in power output to not have the 435 biting at it's ankles, this didn't seem right with the E92 M3 & 335i, I know there is more to the differences than power output but in the E46 the M3 wiped the floor with the 330i by over 100BHP

The pictures we will get will be of the "concept" M4 so that will differ slightly from the production model but generally not by much, the splitter could be part of the M performance range as you can get splitters for the e92 M3.

There are no vents in the hood of the test cars either so they appear to have been dropped.

You are right though that is a render not a photo but that doesn't mean it's not from BMW.

+1 I don't think any official or officially leaked BMW shot I have seen before has been missing a number plate, so this is almost certainly a fake.

But the partly disguised scoop photos above show what is likely to be a good looking M car

From that pic it looks quite similar to the E46

Agreed. A bad fake at that.

This is still my favourite fake:

I reckon it's going to be a bit good - whilst being predictably more refined, yet faster and less 'raw' than the generation before.

No doubt moving from 3 to 4 will push the price up a bracket also. I'd expect base prices to move to starting with a 6 with 'specced with options for resale' nudging lots to start with a 7.

Quite looking forward to seeing the finished product, this looks promising. I don't have a problem with the name either as presumably they'll still make the M3 in 4dr saloon form alongside

I wonder what Yas Marina Blue looks like. It may be very close to Laguna Seca Blue. Probably Santorini Blue with a tinge of green.

Anyway, I'd like to see saloon M cars as the 'cool' ones to have. The coupes look too 6 series-y for me.
