VXR8 mpg.......
Discussion
Im going to look at a 6.2 auto R8 tomorrow......what to they do mpg wise on a day to day basis? I've had a CV8 Ro in the past which did about 18 going to work and back, and about 30 on the motorway. Also, any things in particular I should check? Do they have the same power steering cooler problems as the Ro? Cheers in advance.
im getting around 21 mpg doing 300 miles a week mixed driving, and not driving economically.
i have done 40k with no major problems , just the fast flasher issue.
you need to check the brakes as they are very expensive 2.5 k from Vauxhall, for a set of pads and disks , much cheaper from Monkfish.
other issues are the front suspension knocking.

My 6.2 R8 averages about 24 mpg, a 59 plate auto, just creeping up on 50,000 miles now. I do the run up and down M3 2-3 times a week, plus a bit of running around town. Its my daily drive. Done just over 10K this past year, replaced front discs with factory ones supplied by Wilkinshaw Performance ......no other issues to report.
I have a 6.2L on a 9 plate 'Manual and can be as much as 27 mpg cruising at 70 mph but knocking around town can expect as low as 15 mpg in mine
Also listen for whining diff and an overly clunky gearbox, mine has 24k on it when I bought it and reverse was always bit tricky to select. At 30 k gearbox failed.good luck with what ever you get and enjoy it

Mine averages out at 19 mpg you can expect more if you take it easy, gearbox is normally hard to get into reverse but select a forward gear first and it will go in reverse ok.
No issues with mine (touch wood) 57k miles still original discs all round, but will be changing them when pads are worn out.

I got typically 18 mpg on daily 12 mile commute. I managed just under 29 mpg on a leisurely trip from Bristol to London area this summer.
But I did have an 80 mile daily commute a few years back and got the VXR8 converted to LPG – more or less halved my fuel cost and much less cost that having a second car and losing the fun of the VXR8.

What amazes me is how many of you have a handle on what MPG you're getting! I haven't got the first clue what mine is and I don't care either. The only time I worry is if I max out my petrol credit card in a month with its grand limit
I'm with Gary on this one fk MPG

With all due respect, It's very easy to say f*ck MPG if you have £1000 a month to spend on fuel.

A group of us went to London last week to do some tunnel runs I doubt anybody there got more than 15mpg some probably a lot less but we all had a great time. It's also with all due respect when I say if the difference between 20 and 15mpg means that getting or keeping a V8 is a deal breaker then perhaps it might not be financially prudent for that individual.
Surely V8 ownership is about want over need - nobody needs a V8, let's be honest they are a complete ego massage. personally after a tough day going out for a drive in my Monaro just resets my mood and puts a silly grin on my face I don't think the same with be true if I were worrying where the next tank of petrol was coming from.
OP enjoy the VXR8 if you get it
