I need to put up the trellis' shown bottom right of the pic and have made up two long horizontal lengths of wood to hang the trellis' to but I am not sure how to attach them to the fencing. The panels are too weak/old to attach the wood to. So, my options are either drill into the posts but I am not sure how easy this is or if it's a good/bad idea or get two posts and attach the wooden horizontal bars to these. Thoughts/ideas?

Damn hard I expect.

If you just want sowemthing to train plants up I'd put nails into the wooden uprights and run wires across/down to suit.

yes Not going to be easy without using an SDS drill and that will probably smash it to pieces.

By the looks of the curves on the trellis, I take it that it stands up to cover the existing fence and not across the top like normal trellis?

Also bear in mind those concrete posts will probably have steel reinforced rods inside them.

PS. If it were mine I would replace the stty fence rather than try to hide it.

I would drill them

But I suspect that "No More Nails" is your answer or some kind of epoxy adhesive to attach battens to which you screw the trellis

Screw your horizontal battens right through the upright timbers on the fence and go right through to the panel and into the upright on the rear to get a fairly decent fixing.

And yes, they will have reinforced rods in them. I have access to large drills (other neighbour has evenry tool under the sun).

I've drilled similar posts before, so it should be ok. Just make sure you use a new drill bit and a good drill to make it easy for yourself

I've drilled posts like that before. There will be 4 reinforcing rods which are in the four corners of the 'H' as you look from the top so drill in the middle of the post and you'll be fine. They are not very hard at all....

A decent quality SDS drill an quality bit goes through concrete easily enough.

Go with a very small bit to start with and work your way up to the required size.

Drill in the centre as that is where the meat of the post is. Go on the edge and it could well just crack and splinter off.

No problem, an ordinary mains hammer drill will do that. SDS will be even easier.

You can't drill it or attach anything to it if it isn't yours, unless you have permission.

So put your own posts in.

only a complete and utter ahole would kick up a fuss over something like that, as long as your not screwing through into the panels (as bas as they are) and havent done any damage to the posts when drilling you should b e fine.

If you put up posts what would happen is the neighbour would then remove their fence and you would have lost 6 inches of your garden.

If you'd read the thread you'd realise the neighbour probably qualifies.
