Saw it last night at the O2 and really liked it. Much more in the vein of Pitch Black which is a good thing. Good story, good characters and some real laugh out loud moments, plus a few that make you winch. Plus the sound design was brill
Not only that but Katee Sackoff (Starbuck from Battlestar Galatica) kicks arse, has a real potty mouth and gets her baps out, what’s not to love

Just returned...and t's a tough one to call.
OK, 5/10.
The first 3/4 of the film is really quite well set-up. Riddick plays the 'menacing' anti-hero exactly as he played it Pitch Black and indeed the look and feel of the sets is very similar.
But then, inexplicably, its let down by it's very poor last 1/4.
I won't elaborate for obvious reasons but its such a shame.
There will clearly be another film as you don't get Karl Urban in for a 2 minute 'mr bad guy' cameo and not intend to use him a whole lot more in a follow up film.
CGI was poor, very very poor in some scenes...the hover bikes being one case in point. Crikey, the original Star Wars hover car was better realised than these bikes and some other scenes were just to obviously green screen.
Still, KatieJackoff Sackhoff gets her baps out so its not all bad news.

Riddick Part 4 on the way
Well, impressed or otherwise, it seems the film hit No.1 in the US box office over the weekend and Vin Diesel will be coming back as Riddick again...and maybe not for the last time if I'm reading this article correctly.

Last 7 paragraphs of that article below:
Vin Diesel first played Riddick, an alien mercenary with glowing eyes, in 2000's low-budget thriller Pitch Black. It proved to be his breakout role, after bit parts in films such as Saving Private Ryan.
It generated a live-action sequel, The Chronicles Of Riddick, in 2004. Plans for further instalments evaporated when the film only took $116m, against a budget of $100m.
But the character got a second chance when Universal asked Vin Diesel to make a cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006. He agreed, but instead of a salary, he demanded the rights to the Riddick character.
He then ploughed his own money into financing the third film, in which the character is badly injured and trying to reach his homeland.
Somewhat ironically, Universal came back on board when shooting had finished, and is the film's distributor in most territories.
Vin Diesel says he is already planning a fourth instalment.
"I'm very much committed to this world, committed to the character, committed to the franchise, and very much excited about the following chapters and the places this character will go," he told Time Magazine.

I went to see it in the cinema last night after having about 30 seconds to decide on a movie and getting confused (I thought it was the new one with Will Smith and his son)
Whilst Riddick passed the time and isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, I certainly wouldn't watch it again and won't bother getting it on DVD.
Plot line is thin at best, there's far too much unnecessary bad language, more plot holes than you could drive a (badly CGI-d Hoverbike) into and the whole plotline is just thin.
4/10

I saw it last night and have to agree with the general tone of this thread.
Some mega poor CGI (hover bikes), the lighthearted comedic moments were a step away from the darker and moodier themes of the previous movies. Whilst some moments were really funny its not what i expected of the film.
Was ok but unlike the others in the franchise i wouldnt bother watching again.
Objectively it was terrible, script was terrible in places, plot holes everywhere. However I really enjoyed Pitch Black and found myself just enjoying the Riddick character- although he would probably be more suited to a mini series. As was mentioned it really fell apart in the last ~20 minutes.
If your not a fan of Pitch Black dont bother and now that Rush is out I dont think anyone is recomending spending your trip watching Riddick instead of Rush!
