Great Scott! This has got to be exceptionally rare - an abandonded DeLorean!

I went to visit a friend who lives in Chiba province, Japan - he tells me theres an abandoned delorean in a plot of land not far from where he lives - This obviously needs to be investigated more....

and this is what we find (only had my iphone with me, so pictures aren't the best quality)

So this is how it looks from the road - just peeking out. judging by the length of the grass, its been there some years (ok, so not a barn find, but more of a grass find):

Getting closer, humming the back to the future theme tune, trying not to tread on any snakes in the grass.....

and there she is - unbelievable!

Bodyworks in surprisingly good nick - no dents or scratches from what I could see. And unlike a car left abandoned in the uk, no windows are smashed

Tyres even looked ok!

interior wasn't too bad:

apart from a bit of sun damage on the top of the dash

Other damage included a smashed headlight, door handle was damaged, and engine cover struts were damaged. But other than that, she looked great! Wonder what state the engines in?

Car had no plates. No-one locally knows anything about it!

I would love to get this shipped back to the uk and restore it. I know, it would cost a fortune to restore, and they're rubbish cars - but it just ought to be saved. Their can't be any other abandoned deloreans in the world, surely? I wonder who owns it?

Although maybe it shouldn't be moved - maybe its been left there by a time traveller, and i'd create a time paradox if it was moved?

Where's the barn?

It's amazingly clean, almost immaculate in fact. How long do you think it's been there?

Properly cool! What's the law like out there regarding 'claiming' something like this?

The most accurate use of 'barn find' I've seen in ages, genuinely.

next to it, building on the left tongue out

id guess its been there between 5 and 10 years - the grass is fairly substantial, and theres no signs of the grass being disturbed to put the car there. the grass has properly grown up through and around parts of the car underneath.

Id normally say, "id buy that and ship it to the uk if I had the money" - but i could actually do it. Just have no idea how you'd even start to find out the owner!

Unusually, that looks like the 5-speed manual gearbox.

this is whats great about PH - good beardage there.

Odd that one, being so close to the road.
Almost like it got a major fault and is prohibitively expensive to repair.

Keep us updated if you find anything else out. smile

Blimey, that'd fetch a pretty penny now! I'd suggest getting on the case, sir!

Potentially legendary thread begins.

haha, classic internet response to everything. fake! nope - theres no signs of being rolled there. The grass is thick front and back - i couldnt even push over those huge big bits. Plus, my friend jimbo who lives there spotted it at least 2 years ago. He's not a car guy, so was perplexed by my fascination with it.

I looked underneath, and the grass has grown into the engine bay at the back and grown around bits. You'd need a pair of shears to free it!

Great post!!

That car looks to be in suprisingly good condition. It would be interesting to see what the underside looks like sitting on damp grass.

Can your friend do some more detective work for you to find the owner??, it would make more sense to restore it with its original paperwork and keys etc...

Somebody needs to save that car!!

I think that dedicated DeLorean internet forums will be all over this shortly with teams of people going to japan to search for it.

luckily i could even provide GPS coorindates - iphone logs gps data with photos!

I tried taking pics underneath, but it was at dusk, so the only pictures I got were a dark blurry mess

I certainly need to incentivise james out there to help uncover some info. He wouldn't take me seriously when i was proclaiming "i would seriously ship this to the uk!" Been saving for a house for years with my other half - she left me earlier in year. So this is exactly the eccentric, silly thing someone does in such a circumstance!

I can't see that car being uneconomical to restore regardless of what's wrong with it. I'd personally try and buy it if you have the means, even if it means selling it as it is.

It's obvious that Marty McFly has come back from the future in the wrong year and run out of fuel so has pushed the car behind the bushes to hide it till later. smile
