I thought these 'tug 'o' war' things were as much about tactics. You sit there with your foot on the brake, let the other guy spin up his wheels and then you engage drive...he has 80% less traction as his tyres are spinning so you power away. That isn't what happens here though, is it...The Landie just pulls it against the brakes, very impressive.

I reckon the 4WD is just enough to make the difference, maybe if the Dodge had a few hundred kilos in the 'bed it'd be another story?

The dodge weighs a hell of a lot more than the Landy to start off with through..

Is the weight over the driving wheels?

Does the Dodge have a Low Range?

The Land Rover might be much lower geared in Low First, which would allow him to put all his power down and still not exceed walking pace. If the Dodge needs to be doing 10-15 mph to get to his power, then that's why it'll wheelspin.

If that makes sense. It's about being able to translate engine power into wheel power where it's needed for a given road speed, and if the Landy can do it at a crawl, while the Dodge can't, then it'll always go the way of the Landy.

Bear in mind the Dodge is most likely auto, pretty sure auto boxes don't like tug of wars

I find they keep the wheels from ripping into the tarmac.

A Landy in low range will pull a bus or an artic without major drama.

The Dodge has a 6.7 litre tractor engine and the manufacturer makes big noises (as do all of the pick brands) about how much it can pull. There will be adverts on the telly with them chained to tree stumps which they will pull out of the ground, grr, manly. They are all mouth and no trousers.
