It's been brilliant so far, used it lots of time. But my latest run this morning, it seems to have added two miles to my course. First time I have run it with an iphone, but I have run it before and worked it out on the website and google maps.
How accurate do people find the free MapMyRun?
What other free aps do people use, and how accurate are they?

I find using GPS and especially phone-GPS to be no more than a guideline and for some routes (lots of trees for example) it's way out. I'd guess the sample rate is low and the estimates when it loses signal are poor.

Other apps people use: Runkeeper; Strava; Endomondo (IIRC).

You still can't do better than plotting it on a map yourself IMO.

I've used runkeeper and liked it, more for walking and hiking in my case though. Used to use it on iPhone previously and now on Android.
My only complaint was editing routes afterwards if I forgot to switch it off before I got in the car to go home. paperbag

It is the first time it has screwed up so royally. Made me think I was flying with it's little on course updates. biggrin
Also really screwed up my calories for my diary.

I use MapMyRun and have done so for a number of years, never used a phone app for running. I always plan the run first and stick to it though!

nice thing about runkeeping is pre-mapping the route very accurately.

Makes planning a 5/10k training run very easy to do.

Map my run on the laptop against Nikle Plus on the Iphone, map my run always comes up short.
Not too sure which is correct but quite often I have had to go a longer route on the way home as it is clear someone isn't right.

A small variable I can accept. My 5k PR has a small variable each time, but today it stuck two miles on a 5 mile run!

I use map my run on my IPhone.

It does slightly change distance. Tbf you probably run a slightly different distance each time you go out. Going wider on bends or running in a zig zag will change it.

I think when I've had issues with it in the past my phone must of lost signal or something. 99.9% of the time it's works as it should.
