Since being a few month old my car has suffered from occasional rattles from the sat nav area. It was looked at numerous times under warranty until the dealer managed to sort it, I had hoped once and for all, just before the warranty ran out. They did tell me sat nav rattles are quite common with the firm suspension, so I guess I'm not alone.

Sadly with the state of our roads and the firm suspension the damned rattle has started to resurface from time to time, but becoming more frequent. It used to only occur when the sat nav was lowered but is happening when it's open now as well.

I hate rattles, wondering if anybody has managed to resolve sat nav related ones successfully and if so how?

Ear plugs in twinned by genesis on loud volumes on the premium stereo. Seriously though I wish I could find the answer too. The rattles drive me bonkers.

Same here. Looked at many times but never fully resolved. I just live with it now.

Mine also..... Just buy a roll of sponge tape, the thin stuff and stick it across the top part of the screen, so when its closed down it has some cushioning and stops rattling.... smile

Got mine fixed by the dealer putting a bit of what looks like stickbacked felt (like the stuff you put on chair leg to prevent scrapes on wooden floors) on the back of the screen unit to stop it rattling on the cover. Fully sorted the issue, even with V12V suspension and cobbled streets.

There is a fix for this in the workshop squeaks and rattle repair manual. Looks a little fiddly as you have to take the centre stack of the dash out, and install a new locating peg (Part No 6G33-14163-AB) for the sat nav lid to rest on. MIght be worth a try though?

Hmm thanks guys, you've confirmed what I suspected but hoped wasn't true.

At least I can console myself that as it's an Aston Martin rattle, it will sound the same from model to model, it won't be as loud as other makers rattles, but the ford fiesta will have a very similar rattle and maybe I should have bought one of those and saved a heap of cash. rolleyes

Do BR do rattles? I'll put a post up on their sticky, always worth an ask before I get a Mazda in disgust.

BR will do everything except warranty work. They sorted my ski slope which is completely rattle free and also realigned my windows as I had some wind noise which cockers noticed on the JLC tour thumbup

The metal pins that hold the sat nav cover on are the bits that rattle. Unclip them and wrap them in sticky felt.

Also, tap just under the ski slop air vents with your fingers. They are usually the cause of the rattle in that area - not the sat nav itself. This could very well be the case if Aston are unable to resolve the Nav rattle.

Had my v12v back from Works after 6th visit there for dash rattles.

Drives me mental.

This time around they changed the ski slope itself after having found it was out of truce. Just very slightly.

Fortunatly a warranty job.

I am now in the new forest and guess what? Tiny rattles again! It is very very very annoying.

The only way to cure them is to press the bottom of the slope and it stops.

This is just crazy.

Monday am on the phone again to Works...

I am so annoyed that i am considering giving a shot to Bamford rose....

How does one get their car over there when living in london?

Yes, when you replace the Sat Nav ski slope the sat nav metal pins and the air vents that I refer to above (which are the causes of the rattles) are simply swapped over. Therefore replacing the slope doesn't really do anything.

Why can't you just take it apart yourself and pad up underneath? It's a ten minute job...

Hi yes I've just picked them up thanks very much.
The bit I'm struggling with in my head is how to actually take the sat nav / dash cover off, ie the piano black surround, safely and without damage.
The rattles guide just says unclip the four clips, but doesn't say how and I'm reluctant to start inserting sharp instruments down the edges to see if it pops off.

Do you know how to remove it so I can get at the pegs etc, or can it be done without removing the trim?

It's really helpful of you to post a fix but it's totally unbelievable that AM and their dealers cannot fix these problems.

This has been a problem since the introduction of the "ski slope" design console.

It's totally bizarre that a redesigned part has not been implemented during the past 9 years.
