Just spotted this on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-hard-top-shuttl...

Nothing to do with me but I know these are very sought after and this is the first I have seen for sale in maybe seven years.

First one I've seen since I got mine about two years ago. To me it just sums up the old-Mercedes engineering-led attention to detail.

It will be interesting to see how much it goes for.

I have one in a friend's shed. I had better watch that one to see what it goes for. It is bloody heavy though!

For the record, it went for £560.

A rare item for sure but on all the r129's I've taken the roof off it has been a simple operation with 2 people.Being aluminium it's a lot lighter and easier than r107 and the pagoda roof my mum had years ago.

Knowing what I am like I would probably have a greater chance of damaging the car using the shuttle!

The aluminium hardtop may be light, but the pano roof is pretty heavy and unwieldy to move around, even with two people.

The main point about the hardtop shuttle is that it makes roof removal/installation a one person job. Its very well designed and easy to use (as to be expected from MB of that era) .

I put my pano roof back on yesterday. Light it is not, it must weigh about 100kg? The car feels less lively when its fitted that is for sure, but it is so much quieter and refined.

Hi All.I've yet to fit my R129 pano'roof. I've made up a hoist assembly in my small workshop hoping I could make or aquire a sling. I've been advised by others not to try and make one due to the weight and stress I might intoduce into a pano roof; weight is approx' 50kgs. However ras62 weather has improved in N Devon lately so might delay fitting?? Silly saying that really with UK weather! Cheers J C
