Why bikers die
Discussion
Went for a walk today that involved walking a bridge that goes over the A3 at Petersfield Hants and could not believe the incredible stupidity of a group of bikers in the late afternoon.
The traffic was fairly heavy but moving a approx 70 when I heard the scream of bikers engines and watched as they swerved in and out of the traffic overtaking on any side that had a gap wide enough!
All it would have taken is one motorist to not see the idiot on the inside and move lanes and there would have been carnage.
Years ago I watched a biker pass me at maybe 120 and the car up front moved out to overtake, the biker hit the back of the car and was somersaulted high in the air like a rag doll and he died as he fell onto the central crash barriers.
I remember passing his bike and seeing his boots still there as they must have ripped off on impact.
Bikes these days mostly have fairings and I reckon they should have number plates to deter this crass riding.

But in all fairness, he has some valid points, heavy traffic at 70 and zooming through filtering into gaps? All that being true, the bikers are speeding and expecting for joe public in their euroboxes to see them coming?
Bikers do piss me off when they behave in that manor, equally though motorists who don't look out for bikers and use their mirrors correctly piss me off too.

1. Massive trauma.
2. Interruption of oxygenated blood supply to the brain.
^^ That's two potential answers (the main answers?) to the presumed question posed by the title of this thread .
Cancer, heart disease, stroke. Someone should do a campaign to stop this carnage.2. Interruption of oxygenated blood supply to the brain.

maybe car drivers should look out for bikers legally filtering? or before changing lanes just a thought..
The way the OP's described it, there was nothing legal about it.As a side note, when does filtering become undertaking/dangerous driving? Genuine question as I seem to remember looking it up and the results are distinctly unclear.
Heavy traffic doing 50, bike doing 55-60? What if he increases his speed to 70? What if the traffic slows further to say 20-30 and he's still at 70? Are the rules deliberately vague as no biker can be chased/stopped in these instances?
As long as they don't kill anyone else I really couldn't care less. Same with idiot car drivers. There have always been, and always will be, people destined for an early grave. Bikers get your attention more though, just because they can weave in and out of traffic more than any car can, invariably making more noise in the process. Look on the bright side - we are desperately short of transplant organs in this country so if you dramatically reduced the number of motorists who killed themselves, that problem would only get worse.

Next time you are stuck in traffic look in your mirrors and see how far back you can see. Especially if the road is on a gentle curve. A few cars maybe so 20m? What speed would you have to be going to stop in that time? No point being right and dead when the car driver honestly couldn't have seen you is there?pablo said:
