RE: Next Subaru WRX revealed?
Tuesday 12th November 2013
Ever since the second generation 'Bug Eye' car was unveiled, the appearance of a new Subaru Impreza had always been a source of animated debate. So we have images purporting to be the next WRX, let's start with how it looks.
Next Subaru WRX revealed?
Small wheels and staid styling means these 'leaked' images are probably the real deal
'Inoffensive' is probably the kindest way to describe it. Take away the four exhausts, bonnet scoop and diffuser and it really could be any other Japanese, or perhaps even Korean, four-door saloon. The flared arches and big doors make it look a bit underwheeled too. Given how fabulous the WRX concept looked, the blandness of this car is quite disappointing.
Still, Imprezas (can we still call them that?) have never been purchased on looks alone. It's expected that the next WRX will again use a 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine and it will of course be 4WD. Other than that, firm spec details are rather scarce. We should know a lot more, including some news on European sales, when the production Impreza is revealed at the LA show next week. And to whet your appetite stand by for our model-by-model market watch later on today.

The one and only thing that will hold this back is emissions .How cheap is a new S3 to tax again , plus its badge on the bonnet.
Unless the wrx is cheaper than a focus ST it has no chance in hell
edit to say: im dissapointed but not suprised its gone soft on the styling .give me a blob eye anyday

Don't like how the nose falls away especially when viewed for the rear 3/4 (though reminds me of a previous gen 3 series from the same angle). It's not the exterior or even the drivetrain that's put me off the Subaru's in the past, it's the dire interiors.
They could learn something off Kia of Hyundai. Though not quite 'German', it's a match for Fords and Vauxhalls newest offerings.

looks more like a proton, I have owned 5 wrx (2002-2004) not had one for a few years now, I noticed the last one was small compared to more modern cars and the interior was very dated. don't like this new design looks bloated , ,I would spend 20k on a Focus RS
new vs used argument again...sigh plus that foucus rs is a poorly photoshopped version of the latest ST ,if and when the new RS comes out it sure wont be 20k either.
It defies belief that Subaru are still doing everything humanly possible to stop people buying their performance cars. You would have to be one of the ten people in the UK that are THAT in love with "the Subaru thing" to actually spend money on something that looks like that with an '80s Japanese interior. Quite extraordinary...
I loved my 60 plate saloon - had loads of character, very fast, great in all weathers, plenty of room, sounded great, very solid build, very functional, simple interior, 4wd was propery engaging, Subaru tuning packs were a bit pricey but mine came with 320 kit, and I think it looked ace, even on the tidly 18s.
25 mpg average, which considering how I drove it and how much of a missile it was, seems pretty good.
I only sold as I didn't need a four door any more, so could finally get into a 911.
Price will be the issue. I picked mine up ex-demo for 22k. Seemed like a bargain compared to what else was about.

I'm really struggling with Subaru. Huge fan, but it just looks to me like they have Stevie Wonder leading the design team.
Why on earth dont they get some focus groups in to actually look at the car before signing off on the design??? I cannot believe that this was the "best" design that was chosen (and yes, I know this assumes a few different options were presented). But to think this was the least bad option, is just unbelievable.
How on earth they sunk from the rally cred days, to the inoffensive soccer mums car, I just dont understand.
Here's hoping the STI will restore some faith.
