Nice one Simon, I've just splashed out the £1.30 on this after it's been sitting in my EBay watched list for over 6 months
I thought it would work
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=134...
HEADLIGHTS!
I've just fitted Phillips X-Treme headlight bulbs, the 100% jobies.
I originally had their 80% ones which were a significant step up from standard bulbs, but these very latest 100% puppies are better still.
All I need now are some new reflectors for the full effect.
Surly someone has found a sealed beam unit that fits the Chimaera, rather than the mega expensive reflectors & glued in glass lenses?
This current Heath Robinson two piece setup will only ever let condensation & driven in moisture settle on the corrosion prone & delicately finished reflector.
A proper decent factory sealed unit (that have been around for ever) would solve the problem instantly and all for £25 a side or less, even if the reflectors did go in 10 years time it's just £50 notes to sort it.
Not the hundreds of pounds the TVR specialists want for new Bosch reflectors so you can just recreate the flawed design again
TVR's home brew effort at creating their own sealed units using Sikaflex are an absolute Blue Peter joke.
Anyone fitted proper sealed units?
NB: Osram are now doing 110% bulbs that are meant to give out even more light than my rather excellent 100% Phillips X-Treme ones, which are themselves giving out masses of light even with my slightly tarnished reflectors.
Osram bulbs are good quality, I've already got their LED side light bulbs which are brilliant, these little fellas on their own are almost as bright as the standard H4 bulbs on dip.
Expensive, but recommended & less likely to blow than the standard incessant sidelight bulbs when the damp inevitably gets in the TVR leaky "Not Sealed" units.
How about a set of properly factory sealed London TX Taxi lights with integrated adjusters for £110 a pair?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-OF-HEADLIGHT-HEADLA...
With their traditional look lens pattern that very subtly slopes, could they be the perfect solution?

Simon, what size are the TVR lenses mate?
I'm not with the car right now, can you have a measure up?
I have a feeling the the TX Taxi has rather piggy little eyes, although that may just be its fat face creating the illusion of piggy eyes?
If the TX headlights are the same size as the TVR lenses I see no reason why the couldn't be made to fit, probably more easily than the Lupo ones too.
To me they strike a nice balance between the Lupo lights (which can look a bit Christmas tree bawball) and the nice traditional look of the originals.
If they fit I'd say you'd be getting the best of all worlds, a long lasting & much better performing headlight at reasonable cost.

But I just had the lot renewed as original.
You can call it expensive if you like, but try buying a couple of Volvo C70 headlight enclosures
, and you realise how cheap it really is to run a TVR

I mentioned these lights a while back but i gave in with a lack of moral support ..Do they fit ? Ther`s the Porsche 993 head lights ,they are fitted to the MG RV8 .

Are you sure the MG RV8 had Porsche 993 head lights Daz?
Or re you just trying out an idea you have for your car amongst the group?
993 headlights look like this mate...
And would look
on a TVR Chimaera. They are also nothing like what the MG RV8 headlights look like, here's a close up.
In fact it seems the MG RV8 set up could just be another two piece abortion like TVR used, here's an MG RV8 lens for sale.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-Rover-MGRV8-MGB-RV8-H...
Sure, it is used on a Porsche too, but not a 993 Porsche.
As you can see the only real difference between it & the TVR lens is there's a proper rubber seal on the MG/Porsche one, because Porsche wouldn't use Sikaflex like TVR did.
The reflector used in the MG RV8/Porsche two piece unit is exactly same Bosch one used on a Chimaera too.
So they definitely didn't fit MG RV8's with Porsche 996 headlights Daz

It was the Porsche 911 model number 930 & early 964 that used the same two piece design & Bosch H4 reflector as the Chimaera, but Porsche knew it was a poor leaky design so mid 964 production they were uprated to a proper sealed unit that looks like this.
Actually that drawing is from the MG RV8 parts book and as you can see it's not really a true sealed design, more a halfway house using a screw on plate on the rear to close the unit to the elements.
It looks like BL just followed Porsche on the MG RV8 when the two piece ones got ungraded to the "almost" sealed units.
Here's an image of the same ones taken from a Porche parts website.
Ignore the black trims which are Porsche specific and on the face of it they would be ideal for the Chimaera, unfortunately these headlight units are typically £200-£300 each!!!
You think driving a TVR means you get ripped off on parts, try running a Porker

However (and especially for Goat Boy) if you did want to stick with the original reflectors for your Chimaera you can get them sent over from the Fatherland for a realistic price.
A pair will arrive at your door for £106.00 including the postage, still not cheap to recreate what is essentially a flawed & leaky two piece design, but a big saving over the TVR specialist price all the same.
About half the price in fact

http://www.mts-parts.de/product_info.php?language=...
But I'd still like to see if the reasonably priced sealed Taxi ones could be made to work on a Chimaera?
EDIT

Or how about the full shooting match; Thats reflectors, lenses, adjusters, rubber seals...ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!
For less that £200.00!!!!
That's the full package for more or less the same money as a UK TVR specialist charges for one reflector alone!

Shame the lenses are LHD pattern

LED's are the way forward, I've done the courtesy light, & the dash although
mine must of been a Friday car as I have a mixture of ba59s & t5 286 bulb holders in the dash ?
I also added a boot light to the chim and what a difference this makes no more rooting around in the dark! (see boot pic taken @ night no flash etc ....)

Come on give me some credit ether the MGBRV8 which is a Porsche light and the 993 is a contender ..also the Taxi light i mentioned some time back .
There is another taxi light ,same design bit slightly more modern .
Dave you have picked up on my ideas ! All three have been mentioned by me over the last year .
A pair of those taxi headlights new are £110

Not strictly true Daz, I live in London, well Watford - same thing.I probably see a hundred Tx taxis a day, every day, and for the last two years or so I've been casually thinking the Tx taxi headlights might work on a Chimaera.
But I've never actually had a proper measure up.
To the eye they look a bit too small to me, so I must check it out properly, perhaps I should keep a tape measure in the car as I never have one to hand when I need one.
The other thing you notice about Tx lights is they are often very dim, not sure if that's because London cabbies are just driving on their side lights or if their lights are rubbish?
One this is for sure, the lenses are made from cheap plastic that is affected by UV light.
Like Merc headlights the perspex lens material is of poor quality which seems to go milky very quickly.
I'm not 100% sure they are the answer TBH, which I guess is why I haven't pursued the idea since I started to muse it over two years ago.
But hey, if you want to claim the idea Daz that's fine with me.
Lets call them Daz-le lights
