Hi all,
Been just under 2 years since I passed my test, so my insurance is about to go down. When it does I want to swop my current tin can for a Focus- drove one recently and fell completely in love with how it drives.
Have about £2500-3000 to play with, looking at petrol early mk2 or late mk1.
Questions:

-What can I get for that?
-What should I get for that?

Cheers in advance!

If it was me I'd be going MrK 2. Then choose a spec that will suit your insurance situation.

I love the MK1, but find the MK2 a bit dull. It's bigger, more refined, feels a bit more grown up.

If you're after something a little fun, i'd be looking for a MK1 ST170. Wanting something more sensible, then perhaps a Mk2 2.0 Ghia. I'd probably ignore the diesels unless you're doing high miles.

Interesting that - i've luckily got few practical demands other than driving pleasure because I don't drive very often. So economy etc. Is not a huge worry. Will probably look at mk1s then - hadn't thought of st170, good idea. There seem to be tons around.
Would there be issues with previous owners modding / ragging?

Loads of ST170's about and cheap to - because no fecker wants them. Id look into insurance on them to before you buy its probably pretty high for a new ish driver.

Mates St170 standard does a similar mpg as my ST225 with 300 bhp, so mines pants, his is just crap.
