Just coming off my Learner period of 1 year here in the Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Had a test run on the above bike ( just under 1600cc ).

I dont know a lot about Harley and thought I would ask what those in the know thought of this model!

It was a beautiful day & really enjoyed my first Harley ride, hands out in front, feet forward & a nice torquey engine.

Not a sports bike but lovely for cruising and it did handle the twisites nicely......or is there better to be had?

My thoughts it definitely would benefit from louder pipes, filter tune etc.

or should I just get a Diavel, V Rod....

Will mainly be used for a nice 30 min cruise to work & weekend runs with the missus, if she fancies a spin.

If you would like something a little different have a look at the Honda Rune although pretty rare where you are they are about. I recently took another look at Harleys having run one down the drag strip here in the UK many moons ago, I liked the new Harleys but as soon as I set eyes on a Rune there was no going back. I also consider a bit of an investment as very few were made and the build quality is in another league. No harm checking one out.

I think they are great. I went to HD looking for a Fatboy and came away thinking the Breakout was what I wanted.

1. Test lots of different bikes.

2. Buy the one you like best.

3. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

HTH.

As said, get the bike you want to ride and like the look of the best.

The biggest competitor to HD would be Victory, so if it were me I'd deffo have a look at the Judge/Vegas/Hammer from them.

Breakout would be ideal for that.

Defintately needs exhaust and filter and remap (Stage 1 in HD lingo) as a starting point.
I had my Softail Slim Stage 1'd before I took delivery when new, no point in messing about, V&H pipes, filter and SERT fitted as soon as they took it out the crate smile

The guys at my HD dealer really rate the Breakout, they sold most of the ones they ordered as soon as they came in stock, was hard for them to keep one all the time for the showroom!!

By all means try other things, but I suspect if the Breakout grabbed you that much, whatever you try next you'll come back to it.

Indian would be another. They've just brought out some new machines too.

Thanks Guys.

Yep had a run on a road king 2013 to try out the 110 cubic engine and stage 2.

Will definitely try go 110.

Wow, Road king looks a bit bulky but rides really nice.

I can see the attraction of these big bikes for the future...but think I will go Breakout with that rear tyre & looks if I decide on a HD.

There is an imported CVO Breakout coming in from the US with a stage 4 kit - anyone know what this includes...?

Being a non official Aus dealer Harley bike quite a bit cheaper, but the compromise is no 2year warranty/roadside ( at least thats what the dealer said )

HD Adam - a name from the past - think you had a F150HD similar to my old 100th Anniversary one, which I left back in the UK......still miss it.

Did I say - god the weather is good here. cool
Enjoy winter..

That will be true, import sale through non-franchise dealer will have no 2 yr warranty and assistance and other benefits, such as manufacturer recalls etc.

Depends how much cheaper it is as to whether it's worth that risk or not...?

Never seen a mention of Stage 4 on a HD before, so can't help with that....??

Diavel would be my recommendation having owned one for two years now. They can do the whole touring/cruising things very well but when you get to the twisties they are halfway between a streetfighter and a muscle naked bike and handle better than you'd ever believe.

If you go test one ask them to put a touring seat on it. It lifts it a couple of inches and gives the bike a much better feel and puts you in a much better riding position for attacking the twisties.

Only thing I would say, unless you weigh 100kg+ the suspension is set too hard out the crate but can be adjusted to make it much more comfortable so consider this if you do test one.

The Breakout looks lovely but like all Harley's (and I down own one as well) it is a one trick pony, great for a relaxed pose to the bar but gets lost on a day out if the road is twisty as is SO heavy if you ever end up having to push it backwards up a slope!

The Harley has been put on the back burner for a little while.

Picking this beauty up on Sunday instead and then I am on holidays for two weeks.....

Ohlin Suspension Upgrade

Breakout is super smooth in a straight line and sounds epic with a Stage 1 but it's a right pain in the arse on roundabouts, constant peg scraping and just takes forever. V dull. And that's coming from a Sportster 48 owner.

Interesting as I was thinking of selling my 48 to get a Diavel!

I like both....but the Diavel is so far from being a "cruiser" in any other way than Ducati marketing talk

I had a Diavel for 300miles over a weekend. It was awesome, and very quick but not a replacement for a feet forward US cruiser style bike, it was more an upright naked kind of experience ...kind of like calling a Z1000 or BMW S1000RR a "cruiser"

I would have one in addition to a Harley, not instead of...ride the Harley with the missus and for a quick blast go on the Diavel smile

Agreed, but it is the engine that stops the Diavel being a cruiser.

I bought mine because I don't want to go fast anymore, and, because of a hip problem(that has gone away) I couldn't ride with forward controls.

Unfortunately, the Diavel engine isn't all that keen on going slow! frown
