How did you fit your splitter?
Discussion
Hi,
I have the ACT front splitter at home and I should get round to fitting it! I'm thinking I might do it tonight, as I'm taking it to the deepest depths of Cornwall on Friday and could do with some front downforce
So, how did you fit yours? How is it secured? Is it easy/straight forward to do? Anything I need to be aware of or any nuts/bolts/other fixings I need to nick from work before I leave this evening?
Cheers,
Dan

what do you mean with front splitter ?
This, it goes under the front of the car, tucked underneath somewhere. http://www.actproducts.co.uk/shop/sp007-front-spli...

Self tappers or pop rivets?
Not very posh but that way if you should "catch it" it will pull off quite easily with minimum bodywork damage
Pop rivets isn't a bad idea. I might borrow the rivet gun. Not very posh but that way if you should "catch it" it will pull off quite easily with minimum bodywork damage

I can't remember if it's pre-drilled. If it is, anyone remember the screw size?
Dan,
They do help - a bit! Certainly affects the cooling, not so sure about aero!!
When I had my Chimaera, I decided to replace the splitter which, at some time in the car's early life, had been 'smeared' off the underside. I got some 35mm plastic angle from B&Q and, using original holes, self tappered(?) my 'new' item onto the underside.
IIRC, it definitely dropped the engine temp whilst under way, don't believe I noticed any huge benefits to road-holding though.

Shortly after I got my car, the splitter had an encounter with a speed bump.
I sheepishly went into the dealer's service manager and asked "how much?"
The told me some absurd number like £150, then asked if I wanted it fixed.
I said "yes", the mechanic was dispatched out to my car, he removed the bolts, threw the mangled remains of the splitter in the bin, and the manager said "It's fixed. No charge."
Can't say I missed it.

hmm, didn't think about speed bumps. I hope it will miss the bumps near my house!
That's the problem!Humps - - laughingly called traffic calming, (can't think of anything more likely to enrage a driver!) plus the appalling state of our roads cause untold damage to not just splitters, but wheels, road springs etc.
I just go dead slow at humps, and if possible, approach on the angle...just as you would when boarding a ro-ro ferry. My son had 2 broken road springs resulting from poorly maintained roads.
