V12 Vantage S Roadster
Discussion
Alwin has posted this blog - I don't see how there is now any doubt that this is indeed a V12 Vantage S Roadster and furthermore, with it having no disguise whatsoever, one assumes it's fairly imminent (Geneva in March ?)
http://www.aston-martin.com/2014/01/13/v12-vantage...
I've done a plate check and see the car is first registered in September 2013 plus in addition to V12VS front grille, it has V12 bonnet and the latest V12VS 'option' alloys.
I don't really get why there was ever any doubt over this becoming a reality - I've said ever since V12VS was launched it was only a matter of when, not if, based if nothing else on the fact there is a market for the car. However it could well be that this is not a limited edition, partially based on poor handling of V12VR (EDIT: Freudian slip ! poor handling of SALES of V12VR, not the car's handling !!!!) and partly because it looks to potentially be launched so soon after V12VS coupe
Meanwhile from a purely selfish viewpoint, I'm now very happy I bought registration 'V12VSR' ! I won't be buying the car but I suspect I'll have no problem selling the plate in due course !

I know the 'open' grille has been a long tradition with Aston Martin racing cars (DBR1 to the present Vantage GT4) and it looks fine.
However in my opinion on a road car, it can look as though something is missing.
Another point is that if the grille has racing associations, the Roadster model is not used for racing.
What do you all think, about using the racing grille on road cars?

Wonder if Alwin will sell his V12VR now ? Surely this will knock the prices down of unsold V12VR's now ? Still a few LHD on mobile.de....
Will watch with interest
well as alwin has V12V coupe, V12V roadster and an original vanquish, I'm guessing he may add rather than swap ! Or upgrade his coupe to V12VS and keep V12V manual roadster Will watch with interest
Whilst I'm sure a few will, I suspect most V12VR owners will not be 'upgrading' - I certainly won't !
Here is a link to all V12V Roadsters spotted on Autogespot (the source of Alwin's photos of the red one) - good to see some of the combos, recognise one or 2 of those cars !
http://www.autogespot.co.uk/aston-martin/v12-vanta...
However the car I find fascinating at first looks somewhat innocuous
http://www.autogespot.co.uk/aston-martin-v12-vanta...
but look at the shot of the interior ! This is patently a development car - you can tell from the cover over the steering wheel & top of ski slope, velcro on the rear bumper (for holding a camera or measuring equipment), the cables on show, big red cut off button, etc - classic giveaways
Now look more carefully at the gearstick ! It's not a manual car - it's a 2 pedal box car, with a dummy manual gearstick sunk into the surround of a 2 pedal centre console. That explains the cover over the steering wheel - it's so you can't spot the paddles. This car was spotted in Spain at the end of November but is on British registration plates.
So if there was any doubt, there should be none now !

That grill looks better with a bit of colour in it.However in my opinion on a road car, it can look as though something is missing.

I know 5/6 of the other owners of V12VR's in Britain and would be surprised if any of them go for the V12VSR. Most decided on the V12VR because it was likely to be the last car Aston produced that was a V12 and manual and would therefore always have a special place in Aston's history. That was enhanced by it being a limited edition and being able to spec it exactly as you wanted. A special car which in 20/30 years will be a classic. Despite this most Roadsters are being used for what they are meant for and not locked up in collections which is brilliant. For me it is the perfect Aston and we have just loved our first year in the car and done some fantastic trips and been on some great events. All being well it is therefore very unlikely to be changed for a very, very long time Will watch with interest
That's not to say that if funds allow I wouldn't be tempted by a V12VS - but it would be a hardtop
Undoubtedly some V12VR's will come on the market but doubt there will be many. It will be interesting to see what happens.
A quick check of the above KU63FHC reveals this is indeed a development car, vin ending X76001, a 5935cc convertible with an AM28 engine. This car was registered as early as September last year. The DVLA do not have a designated model type for this car yet as this bit is blank, which is what happened initially when the likes of the Vanquish, V12VR, V12VS came out.

I notice the DVLA show the annual road tax for this car as;
12 Months Rate £225-00.
Is that a bargain, or just another DVLA mistake?
Recently drove a V12VSR up a legendary canyon road at 6-45am as the sun rose over the Palm Springs Valley. It is simply the most exhilarating road/track car i have ever driven. If anybody is mulling it over, please book a test drive, it is what makes hard labour worthwhile!!
If you are on the verge of ordering, i would suggest the P-Zero Corsa tyre.
