Got my little Sky on demand connector box last week, connected it up to our Sky+HD box and duly recorded the first episode of Hostages from 4OD becasue we'd missed it....

Anyway this 45 minute non-hd programme took well over an hour to download (file size was shown as 654MB) - is this normal or do I have a problem with some piece of equipment?

We're using Sky wireless broadband via a Sky hub...

Cheers

What speed are your other wireless connections, e.g. PC?

I had similar. I've tried to download several things and it's just been slow. Cancelled, got onto some newsgroups and get over 1.5mbps on the same broadband line. Clearly not my end!

My parents are having the same problem - all other wireless devices in the house run fine, it's just the Sky kit that is sluggish.

I've not done any fault finding just yet (the first step will be to run a cable between Sky box and router and check the wired download speed) but, after a quick Google over the weekend, it appears that this may be a fairly common problem.

FWIW, I'm with Sky Broadband and I use a wired connection between HD box and router and it's less than 3 seconds between the 'Starting Download' and 'Available to View' messages..

Unfortunately I don't have the option of a wired connection between the Sky Hub and the Sky+HD box because a previous owner of our house had the master phone socket moved to an upstairs bedroom which she used as a home office, obviously the Sky+HD box resides in the lounge...

We had exactly the same issue, the above solved the problem.

Sky are also sending out free wireless boosters at the mo.

Exactly what I plan to try with my folks, if it transpires the Sky WiFi adapter is shonky (as suspected)..

I've ordered a Sky wireless booster, I'll see if that helps

My other half has this problem with her On Demand stuff and her Sky+ is hard wired into the router. It's so slow we don't bother with it at her place.

Mine is fine though!

It won't improve speed,it's not what those devices do. Quite the opposite in fact.

You should go straight to the homeplug solution. The range extenders really only help people that have a home with a wifi dead spot. If you already have some signal, then you'll just halve your connection speed.

The 500mbps homeplugs from TP-Link are on offer for £20 a pair at PC World at the moment.

These will give around 70meg download if the router is less than 10m away, so getting pretty close to full fibre speeds if not quite there.

Got my SKY on demand connector yesterday - placed 2 metres from my router it takes over an hour to download a 60 minute SD show. Works 1000 times faster with a wired connection. Baffling.

Hi

Has anyone had any issues with their wireless box?

I only asked, because this evening I was like a kid on Christmas day when mine arrived.

I have Sky upstairs and downstairs (box is downstairs, magic eye or whatever it's called). I've just dived upstairs to watch TV and I can't seem to change any channels, volume etc?

If I go downstairs it works no problem, but not upstairs. All I did was plug the bloody thing in!

What box did you buy? If it's an on demand wireless connector then it only allows a Sky+HD box to connect to the internet wirelessly. It doesn't have anything to do with the TV, volume or otherwise.

If your TV link has stopped working check the connections. Is the light on the TV link lit up?
