Hi people,

Ive just bought a Focus Zetec 2.0 and am installing a ripspeed stereo. It all seems simple enough but id like peoples thoughts on a few elecrical issues such as the location of the reverse wire near the aux fusebox as i need to scotch lock it.

Also how easy is it to create an extra concealed USB point in the car. Im aware that i need to use the conversion abilities of the cig lighter but am unsure of the best way to go about this.

All helpds welcome.

Thanks
Shaun

Ripspeed, cheap and cheery, I liked mine so much I bought an identical one for my old truck.

Cant help with the reverse wire, but for USB go for something like

Thanks for that.
Im a rught noob. Wheres the best place to connect these upto? Im thinking having the usb above the rearview so trailing the wiring down the a-frame of the windscreen then to the fuse box but not entirely sure where the black (-) cable gets connected to

The USB port is easy enough. Just get a 'USB panel port' from eBay...

Then carefully cut out a square and two holes to mount the USB port in a spare switch blanking plate from the dashboard.
You can chop the wire, and mate it to a lead from a USB mouse or keyboard which you can plug into the Ripspeed USB fly lead. The wire colours are the same, so blue to blue, green to green, red to red etc.

The reverse signal lead will need to come from the gearbox switch, unless you can locate it with the aid of a wiring diagram.

Anyway...sorry to break it to you, but those Ripspeed head units are rubbish. The display is too bright at night, but if you dim it, it's too dark during the day, and the RDS function is woeful - they spend way too long trying to retune. All you need these days is bluetooth or an AUX input so you can play stuff from your smartphone.

thanks for tellling me. I only need it for the screen and the aux/usb input. Is the reverse cable much effort to get to or is it easier to wire it to a active connection and just switch to thw channel when required?? Ive got wiring diagrams but aint to good at reading them. Oh well only one way to find out.

Very true about the too bright / too dim aspect

The USB thing i posted, red to any good live, or run a new one from the battery and add a fuse, black one to any good earthing point.
Nice to have USB ports for power, one to charge a phone, the other to run a satnav if needed without the crappy cigar lighter socket, for a neat install have the USB input for the ripspeed somewhere near too.

I will fit mine, some day.
