Hi everyone! After lurking in the shadows of PH for a while I have decided to come out and write my first post.

I'm taking a hard look at a 2010 A4 estate that looks very nice despite having 140k on the clock. It's got the 2.0 TDI 143 CR (CAGA) engine with a multitronic transmission, it's a good spec and good value at £8000. It seems to have been maintained well, with gearbox oil and filter changes done like clockwork and inside it still looks and feels fresh.

From my research the only weak link seems to be the gearbox. There is a good thread on the failings of the multitronic in the B7 and older cars, but not much on the reliability of the newer generation.

Has anyone had any good (or bad, if you must) high mileage experiences with the B8/Multitronic/engine etc? I really like the car and I don't mind spending some money on it, but I also don't want it to completely blow up in my face. Any thoughts?

Dr G

I've sold dozens of late multitronic cars and they're generally very good.

The only two failures we've had in the last few years are a 90,000 mile A6 2.7 that had never had its box oil done and an 80,000 mile (2009) A4 B8 that had never had its box oil done. Seeing a pattern?

Of course, at 140k miles wear will start to play its part but maintained correctly there is no reason why such a car wouldn't rock on past 200k.
