Hi Peeps...Well while i was having a look to see if i could get to the old bonnet badge nuts i lifted the mesh to reveal a very rotten radiator, The two front corners were like a chocolate flake..So wondered if anyone has an old one knocking about that needs a refurb that i could have for some beer tokens..I don't really want to be without the car for a week, The rad is not leaking at the moment so i would like to get all the bits and then choose my day of effings and blindings...Cheers...Ziga

Well if it ain't broke...

THere's an SDi one on the flea 221393835950. While the elbows are different it will work - when the hoses pressurise the kinks open out. It will do for a temp swapover then you can sell it again after.

Make sure it's the right size though first - this one looks squarer than I remember.

Thanks for that Adam, It does look a bit wider though and the fixings look like they are missing..Although it might be worth finding out a bit more about it...Cheers...Ziga

Berkshire rads usually have one on their shelves in copper but you are looking around the £160/170 figure, it would be an uprated one though with extra water ways.

Guildford radiators do all the ones for the tvr dealers near me...so much so when I walked in with it the guy took one look and said 'another tvr rad...''!!

About 200 queen heads I think...

A real bar steward of a job on mine. Took all my patience and quite a bit of skin. That's when I realised there was quite a bit of marine ply in the nose area of my Wedge. Hope your swap over goes smoothly Zig.

There's usually some at the back as well, TVR called it crumple zones smile

We had a rad repaired whilst we waited. PIA I know but up early, rad out transport to fixers pre arranged visit and back in by lunchtime?

Edit. This particular rad was on (not in) a roof so drove to the repairers and removed there. So depends if you are confident on getting it out.

Sadly no. Van with a generator in it, rad was mounted in a cowling on the roof. No time to take the van off the road so we pre arranged to be there at the repairers. Dropped the water (rad full plus a tad more) into a large plastic storage can, whipped the rad off, repaired, back on and dropped the water back in. Actual rad repair took less than an hour and they tested the new core.

But, the whole point was we had a chat in advance and got ourselves booked in. If you can find a repairers local of course.

For any dealings with suppliers, I find it best to declare that the component or repair involves an old kitcar, thus ducking the TVR price premium that can afflict some transactions.

If push comes to shove, you could always buy a new classic Range Rover rad from someone like MM4X4 in Worcester or Craddocks in Cannock.

Having had the misfortune of owning three classic RR's in the past and having to replace radiators on all of them (I must have been saft), I was convinced that the one I took off my 350 Wedge for repair was identical to a 3.5 carb Rangie (not the 3.9 efi one). I had to decide between getting the old one repaired, which I was told would take a week, but in the end took over 2, or buying a new one and fitting it that day after a short drive to Worcester. I opted for the repair and regretted it due to the time I was without the car. There wasn't much in it, cost wise.

But...If you go down the new rad route, please double check and don't take my word for it that it IS the same as a 3.5 carb RR. It doesn't help that LR/ RR specialists have genetic rad photos on their websites, so if there's a LR indie near you, maybe you could take your rad along to them for comparison.

Just a thought....

I'll get me coat.
