400SE leaky Otter Switch
Discussion
Hi all,
I had my radiator refurbed a couple of years ago and replaced the hoses with silicon hoses from RT. All been good, until now. I seem to have developed a leak from the otter switch - top left of the radiator as you face the front of the car). How is the otter switch held in place?! is it an easy fix? ie can it be tightened up in situ, or would the radiator have to come out?
I'm not too smart with the spanners, so please forgive my ignorance!
Thanks in advance,
Mani

Hey mani! Great to hear from you!
The otter switch is held in with a sprung clamp and holds it in. It could be that the rubber seal is gone, either way you need to lose some coolant to investigate.
If you do have to take the Rad out, a good idea is to change the otter switch to a threaded rad switch. i did this as someone else reccomended it and it seems like a good idea.
Its not a very nice job but its not the end of the world. Its just tight...

Hi Matt,
Likewise! Thanks for the info, will rope my FiL to have a look see or book it in with my mechanic. Any idea where or what to order, regarding the rubber seal?! Is it a Range Rover part?
Yours is coming on a treat, been watching your updates with interest! Hopefully catch up with you at the Wedgefest.

Hey all,
Little update. Just goes to show how mechanically minded I am lol. Turned out to be a slightly loose screw in bung at the top of the radiator, that was the cause of my coolant leak. also had to tighten up a clip elsewhere. The bung was a bu99er to get to though
- had to take the bonnet off. Luckily my FiL was there to help.
All sorted now, taxed and on the road!
Went for a drive yesterday after 6 months hebernation
. The wedge never disappoints when it comes to grinning like an idiot!!!
MOT at the end of June, but all ready to go for the Wedgefest!!!!
See you all soon.
