The seats on the Green Meanie were getting pretty worn, so much so that the previous owner had swapped the driver's and passenger's seats around. I wanted to swap them back so I bought one of these leather renovation kits.

I must admit I was pretty sceptical but thought it was worth a try. I took the seats out and started with the driver's seat. Here it is in all its glory:

It took me the best part of a day to clean the old seat as per instructions, degrease and then soften using the conditioner. I then applied the colour, smearing it into the cracks using a cable tie and leaving it to dry. I then thinned down the colour and sprayed on three coats, leaving to dry between coats.

Really chuffed with the result, far better than I expected.

I will now have to do the passenger seat so they match rolleyes

I used Liquid Leather by Glipstone. Not cheap but well worth it if you want to give your seats a good going over.

To answer both questions, I used the 250ml Kit, "Sufficient to re-dye the facings of 2 seats (not enough for a Rolls Royce)" at £56.50.

http://www.liquidleather.com/re-colouring.htm

I bought a cheap gravity feed spray gun (Toolstation) and this made all the difference.

Mistakes:

  • The Meanie is a 3/4 leather and I assumed the sides of the seats were leather, however they are not, they are vinyl and the they did not take very well with some streaking. To be honest it doesn't notice too much but I must admit I was using the first seat for an experiment, because I was somewhat sceptical of the stuff.
  • In my eagerness I sprayed a bit too much dye on the bolster and you can see that on the photo. Again something to be re-done in the future but I learned my lesson
As for colour I snipped a bit of the vinyl from underneath the seat and sent it to them and they matched it. It could be magnolia or it could be biscuit. I would suggest you do the same.

They also recommend that if your seat has been re-coloured before that you wipe the seat over with cellulose thinners to get rid of the old dye. I didn't do that as I didn't have any thinners and it is not so easy to get hold of but if you have some it may be worth doing. Apart from that I pretty well followed instructions although I used a PVCu Solvent Cleaner (again from Toolstation) to degrease and rub down the seat and sides.

I am not particularly endorsing Liquid Leather over all others but it worked for me. I will be interested to know how long it last for......

Thanks Pete. Appreciate your fulsome explanation. Mine is not quite as bad yet. Information useful when I come to do. I'm also a bit skepical but Liquid Leather Co seem to be doing well with all those cars listed.

My bit of bling. Skotch reflective as seen on some Dutch cars. Catches Tivs eyes. Like, no like, ?

I think I would have to see it glowing in the dark to make a comment......!

I like that Starmist Ocean Haze. It looks similar to my Juniper Pearl but a bit lighter. Never thought I would like a green car until I bought one....! Pete

Mine was Juniper until somebody did a respray. Green blue Indian Ocean sea colour.

Still unsure whether its too much bling.

Juniper is a rare colour.
I've only ever seen 3 Griffs in juniper pearl. One was written off by a well know PH'er(a BV), one was M6 TVR (proabaly saw it just after it was new) and one at the Growl. Great colour on a Griff.
