Should the indicators self cancel on a MK1 Tuscan? Mine never have but something is a miss, there is a "interference" clicking that can be felt through the steering wheel and it can be quite loud, seems like something is either broke or possibly misaligned inside the indicator/wiper mechanism?

If anyone can shed any light before the tools come out that would be great, also if anyone knows what car the stalk mechanism was took from(GM)I think, in case it needs replacing!

Thanks in advance.

They should... my first MK1 self cancelled fine (about the only thing it did reliably!)

The ones on mine don't currently cancel so I'm in the same boat.

The parts wiki reckons the steering column is from a Vectra B. Also a little scout about PH reveals that tracking changes could be responsible for the sensor 'ring' being out of sync... a good starter for 10 I reckon.

OK so back home, tools out, job done, Stevieeg thanks for the heads up on the fact they should cancel. Simple fix this one as it was just a case of someone in the cars past putting it back together slightly wrong, with the boss removed you can see a small white plastic finger tab on the back of the indicator stalk all present and correct witch reacts with a large black plastic tab on the back of the boss, with the wheels straight and the indicator in the neutral position the tab on the boss should be centred on the cancelling tab (even if the steering wheel is way off) then the wheel should be re-centred on the boss, if only they where all this simple, no mere knocking, the steering feels much smoother as before the ill positioned tab was catching where it shouldn't also there is no sensor ring the contact and ring is just the positive feed for the horn.

Hope this helps you sort yours.

I had a suspicion it would be a mechanism rather than a sensor... Glad it can be fixed so readily... Now to remove that boss!

Cheers!

You will need to use a puller. Make sure you pull from behind the black cast aluminium back plate and not just the boss its self, as they are designed to deform and you would damage it in the process.
