Hi Guys

I've put up with the shocking bunny ears mirrors for two weeks but something needs to be done about them..

Has anyone got a guide to fitting mx5 ones? Or a similar mirror that works?

The car has fresh paint so I'm nervous about body mods don't want to ruin that new paint!

Thanks in advance

Matt

Ps I did try and search but wasn't super conclusive..

Not too difficult to fit Mk1 MX5 and should not cause any paint damage unless you've got 5 thumbs!

Try searching for;
tvr s series mx5 mirrors

Another option is Audi TT mirrors. I chickened out of fitting them myself, and don't think they were that easy, but they certainly look good. Hope this isn't breaking any rules (it was a wet day).

If you do go for MX5 you must go for the Mk1 manual mirrors, which are not that common any more. They are pretty easy to strip down and easy to spray to match the car. Unless you are very lucky you are likely to find some of the internal steel parts (spring, bolt etc) are rusty. Fortunately there are enough MX5 fans around to ensure that these parts can be purchased in stainless from their club or ebay.

Although I have gone down the MX5 route, I have also seen some mirrors in the Car Builders Solutions catalogue which look to me to be pretty good for use on the S.

I am afraid I think you are going to find it very tricky to remove the base of the old bunny ear without doing some damage to paintwork. I cut carefully through the plastic socket boss and broke out the aluminium 'ball'. But I then found the door moulding was slightly distorted where the boss was and I could not get a decent finish without rubbing down an area bigger than the MX5 mounting would cover.

Thanks guys

hmm ill have a think im realy not keen on messing with the paint as its very fresh 500 miles or so since it was resprayed!

Has anyone considered motorcycle mirrors?? im thinking early 2000's blade or possibly earlier gsxr.. not sure the mounting points would cover the removal of the bunny ears...
