Paddington bear has a movie coming out, here in November. The trailer was released this week, and the bear didn't say anything, now we know why. Colin Firth was going to be the voice, and he's quit the film.

Here's the news story, with the trailer. To be honest, I don't blame him for getting out of it. Hugh Bonneville is probably wishing the whole film was 3D animation, so he could follow Firth out.

That looks bad. Really bad. I can't believe how unbelievably bad that looks.

Which idiot decided that Paddington needed a remake?

We showed the trailer to the kids. They laughed like drains.

Then we showed the original programme to them. In minutes they were bored and walked away.

Face it Granddad, the kids today expect different entertainment.

The bear's not English, so why not hire an authentic voice actor like, er, (thinks frantically) Antonio Banderas or Cheech Marin, er, (really thrashing around here) or the bloke who did Speedy Gonzales, if he's still around...

Sadly Michael Hordern passed away some years ago.

The next obvious choice (at least to me) would be Richard Briers - but also sadly gone.

That'll be a success. Looks like the sort of film kids just love.

To be honest I was never a fan of the original program.
