Only there's an awful lot of them and I dont know why anybody would bother paying for what I'm told is pretty lame stuff what with the Internet at everbodys fingertips.

Baffling really.

I didn't create this thread to start a smut-fest I just genuinely wanted to know peoples thoughts on this.

Do these companies actually make money with these channels because Sky must charge them a pretty penny to broadcast them.

You'd be surprised, when I worked at sky it was mainly older people or the box in the teenagers bedroom in some cases into the 000's.

Some awkward conversations though when people debate that it didn't "work" for them, or we traced the gay porn to the teenage sons box....

I've been spending quite a bit of time in hotels recently, and you only get freeview. I was channel hopping and was really surprised to see that babestation is still going. I can't see how that still makes money!

It was just average looking girl with a bad boob job, trying to get people to phone in. They were also trying to get people to text a number to receive a few photos. I can understand that making money pre-internet, but how does it survive now?

I wonder this as well; the same with smutty magazines, in the age of free pron on the internet why would you buy magazines or use the channels? Mind you if you wanted to actually speak with someone then these channels would fill that niche, but then there are internet sites that would fill that void just the same.

I might have a look on those channels when bored at work on a night shift, but as has been mentioned, they are mainly ropey women with bad boob-jobs, although there are a couple of very nice ones I've seen on occasion.

There are so many of the 'chat' line ones I to am amazed that there is room in the market for them all.

However, I doubt the presenters command a huge fee, the sets look cheap and the camera work could be improved. According to my friend.

Or rather porn drove the growth of the internet, the same as it did for video 20 years earlier

If I recall correctly from when I briefly worked at Virgin, they used to make their largest income from PPV porn, prior to the rise of broadband speeds suitable for online streaming. Now Sports and Movies are their largest revenue streams instead.

Folks (men) will pay money to interact with women wearing little or no clothing shocker. Most of the girls use the exposure to gain a fan base who will look for them in magazines, DVD and on pay per view cam sites. Production team make money out phone lines etc.

Her face says:

One of my best teenage memories was staying up for the 10 minute preview at midnight. One time in the late 90s the encryption didn't come on and I stayed up until 4am hoping my mother wouldn't come down stairs!

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VnrIjzesTAk

It was hardcore porn edited so it didn't show erections or penetration. So it was st but as a 15 year old it was a once in a lifetime opportunity!

I think you used to get a magazine from sky showing the listings and there was a letters page.I remember a letter complaining that the encryption wasn't activated and the writer checked multiple times between 12.00 and 4.00am.They were absolutely disgusted.I still laugh about it today.biggrin
