Can anyone please help??
Been offered a 2003 Porsche GT3 by a friend, RHD at a very reasonable price
Has anyone experience of importing?-+ name of recommended shipper.

You might want to call Revenue & Customs to get a definitive answer as it will depend where the car is coming from:

Be wary of buying HK cars, rust is a major issue.

(Cost price+shipping cost) x 1.1 x 1.2 = total imported price with duty & vat. Add to this the cost of registration, tax (which any car needs) and possibly SVA.

Speak to Ben Wu @ Streamline Logistics for handling in HK - www.stlog.com
And Mick Notter @ Benco Freight Services for UK side

Both came highly recommended to me, and my experiences in using them to handle race cars UK<-->HK have been excellent.

Details should be easily available on the internet, however PM me if you want direct contact details.

I live in HK and am happy to inspect the car and help if I can.

Owned various Porsche's before and have race cars etc, so whilst I'm no mechanic, if I can help, I'm happy to.

Also, re-importing a car to the UK, speak to both Customs and Excise and also the DVLA. It's straight forward enough. I've done it from Dubai before with a Mercedes 500E.

Yes you will pay

(Cost of car + shipping + marine insurance = CIF price) * Duty * VAT

You will not need any tests as it is over 10 years old but will need an MOT and first registration fee (around £55) plus tax disk.

Do ask if the car was registered new in HK or imported used as some stolen cars did end up there.

Go on the DVLA website and request an import pack which also contains all the info you need. Feel free to get in touch if you need a good UK customs agent.

I used to own an export company in Japan so have a few contacts if you need help.
