how the juddering fk does one!!!

Their website lists only 0300 numbers which are UK only (don't work from overseas). I found the switchboard number (01792 782 341) but i get a nice recorded message telling me to contact one of the 0300 numbers, as much use as a handbrake on a canoe.

I could fax them, they do usefully list am international fax number, but i have not even seen a fax machine in 5 years!!!

I have tried emailing them but the only response i get is an automated "rate our service 1 - 5" email!

Does anyone happen to have a normal +44 1792 *** *** number for the DVLA

All i need is a D737 certificate as part of transferring my UK license over with only the counterpart paper as i have lost the photo card and you cannot re-apply for a new photocard if you do not live in the UK.

the link only gives me 0845 numbers - also do not work.

Am in the office, skype blocked and with time zones not very convenient for getting home (plus i don't actually use / have a skype account ....)

Office phones cannot contact either ... possibly due to the foibles of Thailand telecoms

The DVLA just quoted 0044 1792 782341 to me, saying opening times of 08:15 to 16:30 obviously this didn't work for you so phoning them back.

Cheers Civicduty, i am guessing this is a new change as i don't see any reference to all usual numbers being discontinued on google.

I have even tried calling 5 numbers either side of their fax number hehe

Right DVLA about as much as use a chocolate fire guard, all they have said is that the 0300 number should work with 0044 instead of the first 0. But you already know that doesn't work.

Sorry I couldn't help any further. banghead

well, had an email back from them ....

DVLA said:
Dear XJSJohn

Thank you for your email received on 10/9/14. Your email reference number is XXXXXXX.

As you presently reside overseas for the greater part of the time, I regret that we are unable to issue you with a further British licence.

Changes to British legislation resulting in the implementation of the Second EC Directive on Driving Licences (91/439/EEC) since 1 January 1997, have required that driving licences are granted only to drivers who are resident in this country.

As you have lost your licence, please make enquiries with the Licence Issuing Authorities in the country in which you now reside regarding advice on driving there.

Should you require confirmation of your driving licence details please telephone to request a certificate of entitlement.

DVLA Contact Centre telephone number: 0300 790 6801.
Opening hours - Monday to Friday 08.00 to 19.00 Saturday 08.00 to 14.00.

A fee of £5.00 is charged to cover the cost of issuing a certificate giving licensing details (a D737 certificate).

When you telephone you will be asked to provide your full personal details or driver number and details of your credit/debit card number (we accept Visa and Mastercard) and the fax number for us to send the certificate. If the card holder is someone other than yourself, you must have their permission.

I can confirm, our 0300 number can be dialled anywhere outside the United Kingdom (UK).

I hope this information has been helpful.
well that was useful, no i definitely cannot call an 0300 number from my location outside the UK. banghead

guess i am going to have to set up a skype account and chuck some cash in it ... hey hum!!

I have been away for quite a number of years, is all of the UK government sector this feckless???

and one for the spelling police spot the two errors in their automated response. hehe

Slightly O/T, but it might be your telephone system in whatever exotic location you're in now. For example our signing and dancing office switchboard had to be specially programmed to accept the '141' prefix to hide the outgoing caller ID, because it had specific number layouts that would be passed to the outside telephone network, and anything else taken as an internal number. For example anything eleven digits long and starting with a zero was a valid outside number, anything ten digits long was not. So if the 0300 xxxxxx number doesn't match the pattern you're used to in that area / country, it might not be the DVLA's fault.

So that would be 2 mobile networks and the state land line carrier.... obviously a network issue ..... argh ..

Just tried the ofcom 0300 number, that also doesn't work and the website says that they are just a new version of the 087 numbers which never worked internationally either ...... ffs

fair comment, have tried 2 mobile phones on different carriers and the office land line ....

a quick bit of googling finds this http://www.callagenix.com/numbers/0300-numbers so i guess the issue is at my end, seems no one told Thailand ...

hey hum ...
