My father is looking to buy a Gran Turismo 4.2, he's approaching 70 so outright performance not his number one criteria however as I will get to use it a fair bit then it becomes more of a factor.

His budget just scrapes him into the entry level for a sensible mileage 4.2, an equivalent S 4.7 is £10k more expensive.

So I was wondering if a remap by the likes of DMS coupled with a valved Larini exhaust or similar would approach 4.7 levels of performance/sound at a fraction of the price.

Edit: apologies for the spelling mistake in the title!

It appears so from DMS website....

Sports exhausts however are pure noise and do nothing for performance, often the aftermarket ones actualy loose power compared to OEM.

The Fi Valved Exhaust gives decent torque gains from 2100rpm through. A map will yield unto 25hp and 20Nm. Gearbox tuning will yield around 24% faster shift.

I saw the Supercar Rooms advertising tuning for various marques - might be worth ringing Steve in their service dept and having a word.

Thanks for the info so far, anyone know roughly what to expect to pay for a remap and a pair of valved back boxes, not too bothered about tweaking the 'box.

Pop onto www.sportsmaserati.co.uk Couple of owners have had the DMS map on 4.7's and noticed no difference in performance against standard cars IIRC.
Also talk to Noor at Torenno performance about back-boxes etc
