Don't know what was under the clip but the balls of all taking part must have been made of titanium with weather like that.

Good to see an Ultima doing well.

I see that the event provides a distance of 3.2km (1.9 miles). I wonder if there is a finish line where top speed is measured and how much straight away is available before the finish? I see that the cars can come around at the start at a good speed before the straight away.

I can tell you that I just attended a 1/2 mile shootout where you begin from a dead stop and then the top speed is then measured at a 1/2 mile marker then providing another 1/2 mile to stop before the end of the runway. The top speed of the day was 219 with a claimed 2000+ hp. Some Nissan GTRs and Corvettes with a claimed 1700+ HP were hitting 200-205 mph. See link, some participants posted HP and you can then analyze speed and judge eight based on the car. http://wannagofast.com/event-time/gashootout2014sa...

An Ultima with ~500 HP at the flywheel can do ~150 mph from a dead stop to 1/2 mile marker without the wing. With the wing ~140mph, the Wing is like a parachute.

Jeff S accomplished 211 in the standing 1 mile, dead start to a mile with a twin turbo LS2. I believe that was with 800-1000 RWHP.

Wow! I think that is the first Ultima to crack 200 at a Vmax event (but am happy to be corrected), and it looks as if there was some serious machinery in attendance on the day.

Could that be the 1000bhp GTR that AB helped to build? has a 4.0ltr Whipple superchargered LS engine.

Surprisingly, a "Head" start makes little difference to the terminal speed in a long (say 1km) fixed distance. This is because cars accelerate faster when they are going slower, and cover much less ground over the same period of time when going slower!

The factory did 204mph on the Bruntingthorpe 1.5mile straight which is listed in there performance stats on the site, IIRC it was done with the GTR640 and maybe raining ?.

Would love to see some vbox stats on the GTR1000 that they now offer a 0-186mph time would be interesting.

There's a CanAm that has pulled standing start(no run up)209 mph on consecutive runs at Bruntingthorpe (officially timed) the mechanic reckons if he had taped up the "gaps" where the clams joined he'd (the driver) have got a bit more out of it and won the event, don't know what the event was though.

The owner lives in Cambridge and I have been lucky enough to see the car and the engine compartment in the flesh.

Well built car.

Indeed, the mechanic I use built the engine and fabricated the intake plenum, exhausts, turbo system and extra fuel tanks.
The car is there often when mine is in for the odd job.

Heavens. When you have two Ultimas in his workshop their can't be any room for anything else (unless he has moved). Clean, tidy and well organised though.
