McLaren P1 GTR: Pic Of The Week

Well there were two choices for the P1 so it's more of the same for the GTR!

Alright, so the last McLaren P1 Pic Of The Week came after the car had been driven but the GTR is just too exciting to wait for. Plus there's the possibility that nobody outside of the GTR programme is allowed to drive it anyway.

Obviously that huge (adjustable) rear wing had to feature in a GTR POTW so that's on show. But it's here from the front as well, new splitter nearly scraping the Bahrain tarmac and dripping with malevolent presence. There aren't any drifty pics but given this is a P1 on slicks with more aero it seems unlikely the GTR would sink to such juvenile depths.

The GTR programme begins in 2015 so expect to see (and hear) much more of the P1 racer before then. We can't wait.

Still doesn't 'do it for me' like an F1 does.

No Mclaren ever made will match the F1 for me either, everything about it, including its dynamic shortfalls make it truly unique. We'll never see anything like it again.

That said, the P1 is a magnificent piece of kit, and the GTR is stunning in my opinion. I can't even begin to imagine how savagely quick it is, or how it would be to drive. That wing is impressive too!

Good grief, the F1 has never done it for me, looks dreary, this on the hand blows it out of the water, looks f'in incredible in these shots.

I think I prefer it without the wing.

Give the car a chance! The F1 didn't go racing straight away.

Looks evil but anyone else slightly unimpressed by the mild bhp hike, was sort-of expecting a really stupid output to take the bar out of reach bearing in mind the inevitable LaFerrari FFXX+ (or whatever it'll be called)

I know the longtail is the ultimate in terms of speed, but for me it lost the purity and elegance that the road and original GTR had.

  • Could not HAVE put it better.
FWIW, I'd love to see the P1 (GTR or otherwise) race in the major European endurance events. The Rover-BRM gas turbine didn't meet Le Mans regs either, but they took it and ran it anyway, under an experimental category. Isn't that also what Nissan did with the DeltaWing? C'mon Ron, you know it makes sense... I'd love to see a bunch of P1s storming up through Eau Rouge in the pouring rain at dusk...

Unfortunately, I just noticed the sort of "derp" grin on the car. It's now hard to unsee.
