Picking up this cage tomorrow, it's a Tequipment cage part number 996 580 982 01.

However it looks different to the 996 Tequipment cages I've seen before - the harness bar is on the rear (rather than front) legs and the diagonal cross brace goes the opposite way (from top of drivers side to bottom of passenger). Unable to find any references on forums etc so far....

Does anyone recognise this style of cage, is it an earlier Tequipment version?

If the brace bar goes to above the driver's head I'd suggest it's for a RHD car rather than LHD?

Yes, looks much better for RHD as the base of the cross brace normally stops the driver's seat going all the way back. Should give me some extra legroom!

The straight legs are front aren't they? I'll look at mine later but the harness bar looks front to me on that pic

The straight legs are the front (behind the seats), so the harness bar is in the right position.

I thought the longer "curved" legs with cylindrical fittings are behind the seats...will have to check against the car when I get home!

It may be, but...

There were as far as I was aware 3 kinds of Tequipment roll bar (and a further 2 kinds of cage) for the 996 and this isn't actually any of those.

I had to look them up, but :
996 580 980 00 Roll over bar with no cross bracing (so fits in non-bucket seated cars easily but doesn't allow mounting a 6 point harness). AKA the Panamericana bar.
996 580 981 00 Roll over bar with the cross bar for harnesses
996 580 984 00 Same as above, but for fitting to Cabriolets.

The 996 580 982 01 part code should be for a full 996 Clubsport cage and it certainly isn't one of those.

That's the same i managed to find, the quoted part number is from the porsche part sticker visible in the photo but it doesn't look consistent with other info online... There is no Tequipment sticker on it (i've seen black Tequipment stuckers on other cages before) but that might not be significant

Hi did you buy it in the end?

Did the part numbers make any sense?

This is what I've managed to dig up from PET.

Thanks for posting the PET, the part number on the bar is 996 580 981 00 so it's the right number (seller misquoted the clubsport part number for some reason). This is the sticker on the bar:

Viewed and bought this roll bar last night. Compared it in detail to the Tequipment bar I currently have in the car, although this one clearly looks different it is definitely a Porsche part, the bends in the outer tube are identical, the mounting points have cylindrical bushes, overal dimensions are the same etc.

Current owner bought the car in Dubai in 2002 with the bar already installed and shipped it back here the following year. Removed the bar a couple of years ago as he was no longer doing track days.

I'm 'best guessing' here but could be a very early design of bar... later revised by Porsche but kept the same part number as it is functionally the same (roll bar + harness bar + cross brace)...

Or possibly was something only offered in the Dubai market?

As far as I can see these are for LHD only.
