I've done a quick PH search and wondered if there was a consensus on what is considered the best option on making V12V sound louder? The Bamford Rose looks good but £5K plus VAT! Would replacing the backbox with a Quicksilver part be enough? Trying to factor this in should I decide to pull the trigger on a car.

Pulling the fuse will probably do it and will cost precisely nothing. Having said that, the BR option will give you so much bang for your buck than just noise.

Pull the trigger and just remove the current exhaust fuse - its plenty loud enough as is. Then if you really feel the need later you can always upgrade the exhaust, but I'd bet you probably won't bother...

Take the rear parcel shelf out and just lay it neatly in the boot... this gives the biggest increase in wonderful V12 music in combination with Sport or fuse removal. Of course an aftermarket exhaust will be louder still, but give this a try first and then decide. smile

I had a decat done on my V12V. It's a lot louder now and I have a switch for loud/silent.

This is more than sufficient imo smile

I've removed the secondary cats on mine.

It's a bit louder, nothing obnoxious. Have retained the exhaust flaps, so I can leave it quiet if I want.

Would love a set of fabricated manifolds for it, but struggling to justify the expense.

Saggy, I posted you elsewhere about my V12V for sale. I have had Bamford Rose fit the bypass switch so you don't need to rummage around in the boot to pull Fuses. I thought I wanted more noise but sometimes, especially on longer Mway drives it can be a bit much and being able to flick the switch into a quieter mode is the way to go.

Pulling the fuse is almost essential for many if you aren't doing any other mods but all that actually achieves is keeping the valves open throughout the revs range rather than just at certain revs

Your question focuses on making it louder and value for money/cost. There is absolutely no question in my mind that decatting the rear set of cats, just in front of the backbox, is unquestionably the best way to answer that particular query, by quite a large margin

Parts cost a few hundred pounds and fitting will amount to a similar sum, so significantly less than £1k in total. Yes you an do as I did and replace the backbox as well and yes, you can do the BR stuff which is £7-8k and gives a larger power gain but for massive increase in volume at sensible cost, which are your criteria, the decat option is by far the best solution

If you keep the standard backbox, you can fit a switch which will then allow you to have the flaps on the box closed or open to keep an element of control - you could do that and still have change out of £1k all in- you won't regret it !

Quicksilver super sport, is magnificent. It's loud, which if you are a bit concerned it might be too loud, then it's probably not for you. I loved it. No need for the titanium versions. No Problems with CEL etc. If I had kept the V12V then I would have removed the secondary cats as well as they have no effect on engine management.

I agree with all that. But decatting is less than half the price, makes an even greater impact on volume, has a greater impact on power and keeps the flaps so there is at least the option. I don't see any benefits of the change in backbox over decatting but 4 benefits to decatting over backbox

Don't get me wrong - I did both ! So I'm not suggesting the new backbox isn't a good idea. But IF the choice was one or the other and price is a factor, it's a no brainer to me.

yes hence why I never bothered with a back box (until I need to quieten it down hehe )

Looks like the secondary cat bypass and supersport back box would be the way to go. Thanks for the responses chaps. Just need a car now....!

I agree. It makes perfect sense to get advice from existing owners before committing to such a big purchase. Don't take any notice of Mako Phil, he wouldn't know about exhausts as he's a polisher not a driver!!!!
