As per the title, if you had £25k to spend on Porsche what would you buy?

Early 997 3.8s
Cayman s
Boxster s
996 C4s
possibly even a higher mile 996 tt

Second car, doing maybe 3-5k miles a year purely for pleasure,

What would you have and why? Pro's/con's etc

Thanks

possibly a 996.1 C2 Coupe, in a perfect world it would have had an engine rebuild already and still leave you with 10k change

This one would be stretching the budget of £25K a bit, otherwise I think a gen 2 S is out of reach.

25k would get you a very nice 911SC.
Get a 1981 onwards 204 bhp.
Lovely handling, old skool cool, cheap insurance/running costs, better residuals than the models listed above.

Or a 3.2 Carrera:

3.2 Carrera coupe

3.2 Carrera cab

Disagree with the last statement a 987.2 non pasm car is better than any 986/996
I had a caymanS non pasm on 18" wheels 987.1 and the handling ,feel was sublime !

If op also goes 987.2 less engine worries ! If the budgets tight a 2.9 cayman non pasm 18" wheels would be a hoot to drive!

I had a 986s then went to a 987.1c both on standard suspension and 18s IMHO the 987.1 was the nicer drivers car,but my spyder is just pure driving nirvana!
Is your 987 riding pasm? If it is then I can understand your feelings about the handling!

Not driven a 986 but older cars are typically more involving and fun, that said I'm very happy with my 987.

I think the first thing you need to decide is what car YOU want the most there must be one from the list above that's your preferred choice.

Then decide on what your must haves are, with an annual mileage of 3-5k mileage isn't your enemy infact you could have a higher mileage car because your low annual mileage would bring it into line with other cars on sale when you decide to move onto something else.

For me it would be the best condition & spec 997 2wd Carrera (not a fan of the 4WD versions) I could find & buy that.

For me it would be a 996 Turbo

It's fast
It's reliable
It's tuneable
It's relatively practical
It's useable in all weather

And....

It's got a Mezger engine!!!

Yes.

A 981 feels completely numb to me but no doubt most people who buy them think they are great.

You may not get it right first time. I quickly moved from (all 996s) C4S to Turbo to GT3. I started off at your £25k price point and then used man maths to justify the other two purchases, helped with a small Lloyds Bank loan at 4.4% which I paid off early

997 Carrera S is the only car I'd even consider on the list.
However I'd add all the air cooled 911's that are still <£25k.

If you want a Porsche, you want a 911 ;-)

2.9 Manual Gen 2 Boxster or Cayman would be my suggestion.

Unless you want a Cayman, Boxster, Macan, Cayenne or Panamera.
