Top tip, never take a decent car to the hand car wash, you are asking to get the paintwork ruined!

This.

They use scourers to wipe your car off, all they do is rinse out a rag that's full of road grit from the previous cars cleaned, when the sun shines (when it does) you'll see skating marks in the paint.

I wouldn't take my van to a hand car wash.

Cleaning an Elise is surely apleasure...why get someone else to do it, let alone a hand car wash?

Just to add, those rubber 'blades' to remove excess water - never EVER use them as they cause so many scratches.

Nope.
Cleaning any car is tedious.
Driving it is a pleasure.
Looking at it is sort of a pleasure (depending on the car)
Cleaning it is just a chore.

Can fully agree with that. I can lose myself for an afternoon with no worries at all.

I can't think the last time I let anyone wash a car of mine.

I recently took my Elise to a hand car wash for the first time ever and they actually did a pretty decent job.
Snow foam
Pressure washer
Shampoo
Wash using thick pile mitts
Pressure washer again
Dry with chamois
Spray on wax
Buff with cloths
Glass cleaner and wheel polish
Final buff

All for £5 and I'm away in ten minutes. Much better than making my hands go numb by trying to do it myself.

Sigh - newbie mistake.
