Tickled pink: You Know You Want To? No?

Want to drive a macho 4x4 and a sporty coupe but stay in touch with your sensitive side? Step up!

Before we go any further this isn't some macho missive suggesting real men don't drive pink cars. Who, for instance, would refuse a 964 RS on the grounds that Rubystone Red looked a bit girly? Given that your average British car park is a study in 50 shades of grey (literal, not literary) someone willing to buck the trend and go for something a little more eye catching should be celebrated and not mocked. Especially if they've done with the attitude 'expense and residuals be damned, it's what I want!'

You're unlikely to see another like it...
You're unlikely to see another like it...
Prime example? This Magenta Mica Audi TT S, spotted in a recent trawl of the classifieds whilst hunting out a good example of this much underrated TT variant. Assuming this shade was picked from the 100 options in Audi's Exclusive paint range it would have cost the original buyer £1,753; if it was a custom colour make that £2,450. Either way, a fair old whack onto the £36,605 starting price. And you thought all Audi buyers craved variations on silver? At least we now know the price of individuality.

What car to pair this distinctive TT with then? Well, if this is the coupe choice how about a G-Wagen wrapped in a similar shade to cover off the school run/hardcore off-roading requirements? And there you were thinking the venerable Gelandewagen's macho credentials were unassailable! Were it a full AMG-spec G55 with side exhausts and a V8 engine note to rattle windows the comedy effect might just work. But it's a diesel. No shame in that per se but perhaps an unfortunate pairing in this instance. It is at least a wrap though.

Are we just being a bit unreconstructed though? Would a real man have no fear for the colour of his vehicle and proudly drive either or both of these fine machines as they are?

Discuss.

AUDI TT S
Price:
£27,850
Why you should: Stand out from other Audis; whisper it but it actually looks rather good
Why you shouldn't: You'll need a skin thicker than a rhino

MERCEDES G350 BLUETEC
Price:
£92,987
Why you should: Amusing subversion of the G-Wagen's macho image
Why you shouldn't: A bloody expensive joke

I'm guessing the TT was, a showroom car which didn't sell, had to registered as a demo, now in used car stock (still unsold)

Maybe ordered by a disgruntled employee.

I'm male and I'd drive a pink car, but probably not that TT because I just don't like it. I do drive a bright yellow Saab Convertible, though, so I have form with bright colours.

It's almost getting to the stage where it's hard to find a car for sale that's not, as Dan put it, one of Fifty Shades of Grey: I had a hard time finding a fast(ish) estate that conformed to Mrs Turbobanana's spec of not being silver, black or white (ended up with red).

G Wagen would raise a few eyebrows at the golf club, no?

The only cars I could drive in pink are heavily modded drifty things.

^ Yeah that drift car looks good. I think it's a "labour of love" thing.

Jethro Bovrildon of Evo fame is getting his old porsche resprayed pink as well. Although it's probably got some fancy name, like "Braun pink".

On Twitter he said it was remaining Arena Red.

I wouldn't rule out a pink car entirely. But depends on the exact shade and the car it's on.

I'd rather drive a pink car than a grey or silver one but I wouldn't really want a TT in any colour.

^this^ Deepish magenta or shocking dayglow pink on something that can carry it off - yes

Powder pink on a Nissan Micra CC - no

I once saw a lowered Saxo, done metallic grey above the belt line & shocking pink below, sounds awful now I come to write it down, but it looked REALLY good (at the time) (ahem)

I few years back I almost bought a pink Caterham Fireblade but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Ended up with a Silver Superlight instead...

A colleague from way back in the day got a Rover 200 Convertible in a "metallic pink" he constantly said it was Red. The ribbing was endless.

So few cars can get away with it.

My M3 is violet purple, and my Corvette is purple in some lights. The M3 has been accused of being a bit feminine coloured but I couldn't care less as I love the colour and hate silver and black. I admit I would draw the line at pink though.
