Seems as though every new step of the project has its own challenges. The latest was encountered last night when I attempted to get the left-hand radiator pipe connected to its 45-degree hose.

It was readily apparent that the entire pipe was sitting a good 1"+ too far aft, but there was no more room to adjust the assembly forward. Trying to force it was moving the radiator on its shock mounts and would've resulted in pre-loading the pipe in its P-clamp (particularly the forward one). Not good.

Of course, the "manual" has absolutely zip/nada/zero/nil to say on the matter. At this point, however, I've been conditioned to dig through the supplemental folders for nuggets of info squirreled away in random places. This time around the treasure hunt yielded this:

The key piece of info being the "less 25mm" specification. I understand that to mean I should cut 25mm from the radiator end of the hose, which will result in the entire assembly moving forward by that amount - exactly what's needed.

Anyway, if you've read this far, you're probably nodding (or nodding off!) in sympathy from having experienced your own treasure hunts for essential nuggets of information. Don't even get me started on the absurdity of receiving bags of unlabeled small parts that have to be laboriously identified. "Frustrating" doesn't even come close. Maybe I was just spoiled by my airplane project - meticulously identified parts, a set of full-size engineering drawings, detailed instructions, etc.

Don't get me wrong - I love the car, I'm very happy with the factory support, and I'm enjoying the project - I just wish that the documentation was a bit more organized/thorough.

You should have read "Bob's Ultima Site" which you have linked on your own website. smile

The October 2003 section says :-

"The top hose was a doddle - just cut the silicon Samco hose to length and fit it with the jubilee clips"

When I built my Ultima, I looked at all of the build websites for tips and tricks BEFORE starting any job. smile

Good luck with the rest of your build.

Yep, you're absolutely right. I generally do read each site's task description beforehand, but I somehow missed that one.

Onwards!
