RE: Infiniti Q60 - full details
Monday 12th January 2015
Another Detroit debut (expect the trickle to become if not a flood then definitely a flow in coming days) is the Infiniti Q60 Concept. And although that’s just what it is at the moment, we’re promised that it’s an accurate “precursor to a high-performance sports coupe.”
Infiniti Q60 - Detroit 2015
Twin-turbo V6, steer-by-wire and 'audacious performance' for 4 Series chasing Infiniti
Or, in other words, they’re going to build it. Only not quite yet.
Inspired by last year’s Q80, er, Inspiration concept it’s certainly a fine looking thing to judge from these pictures, and a welcome addition to Infiniti’s forthcoming new model blitz. The previous G37 Coupe was a decent enough steer, although always struggled to justify its high pricing, and the concept’s “next generation” 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 should translate directly into production reality. Less good news is that Infiniti’s – ahem – controversial steer-by-wire system will also be included. The blurb promises that this “transmits the driver’s intention to the wheels faster than a mechanical system.” In our experience, the system we drove on the Q50 last year also meant less meaningful feedback than with a Sega Rally coin-console. But we digress.
The official blurb is predictably bigger on hyperbole than details – apparently the Q60 has a “unique proposition of striking styling and high-output powertrain in a premium package”, the actual uniqueness of which might well be disputed by Ze Chermans. However, describing the car as a “two-plus-two” means it’s probably best not to anticipate much in the way of rear space, despite the fact that – at 4,690mm in length – it’s slightly longer than a BMW 4-Series.
We can only hope it drives as well as it looks.

Will sell better in America than here where they are more into value for money than badge snobs, looks very nice .
Perhaps more to the point, there are tens and tens of permutations of the 4 Series, including diesels. There is a large dealer network and strong residuals. This Infinity will be what? A relatively speaking thirsty petrol with a couple of trim levels and if lucky a double digit dealer network?
It'll sell well in the US because petrol is still cheaper than walking out there.

Some lovely design details
A Gopping face
Doesn't all hang together very well for me.
Dramatic though!
SO bored of "ooh I can see a bit of this" comments
of course you bloody can its a fking 2 door coupe....
Safe to say this will have common (ney popular)elements, like lights, doors and wheels, but is clearly distinct a whole...
