Cadillac CTS-V - Detroit 2015

A saloon that's more powerful than the new Ford GT? That'll be the big Cadillac!

And our final car from the Detroit show - one for anybody who thinks that the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG S or Audi RS7 is a bit underpowered. Because the new Cadillac CTS-V boasts no less than 640hp.

Two hundred miles per hour. In a Cadillac
Two hundred miles per hour. In a Cadillac
Of course, with Cadillac's turbulent relationship with Europe (on-off-on-off-on-off by our reckoning), it's unlikely that anyone in the UK is going to be in a CTS-V without privately importing it any time soon. But we should still celebrate a saloon that uses what's basically a very slightly detuned version of the Corvette Z06's supercharged V8 engine. And which is claimed to be capable of 200mph.

On the stand in Detroit it looked good, in an understated way. There's a mesh grille at the front and a subtle spoiler on the back of the bootlid, but otherwise it might as well be - to the casual observer - a boggo V6 on some big wheels. The cabin is similarly understated, but noticeably higher quality than the last time we experienced a previous-generation CTS.

All in all, probably as far from the sort of vast, wobbling old-school Cadillacs that most Europeans still associate with the brand name. And that's a good thing, right?

That front end is absolutely hideous! Vulgar doesn't even begin to describe it!

Love the front but don't like the rear and it looks too large. Still, I bet it will be very fast and drive very well.

It definitely looks better in dark colours in my opinion. It's an absolute monster - in a positive sense! Cadillac deserve kudos for this!

I like it however one tiny thing bugs me about it.

Basically the rear 3/4 doesn't look like its been designed or had any thought put into it, it's a blank space. It's like they've designed the rest of the car but forgotten about that last 2ft of the car.

Not the sort of car I'd normally consider, but overall I have to say they've done a fine job on this, but will it drive any good ? If it does, I'd like one in black with blacked out windows and a horses head in the boot/trunk please !!

And with not much more than a pulley change, you're close to 800hp.

Pictures are there to support the text not the other way around. IMHO if no photo was available it's still good we hear an opinion about the interior rather than being completely uninformed.

The article also mentions:
BMW M5
Mercedes E63 AMG S
Audi RS7
Old-school Cadillacs
Previous-generation CTS
Corvette Z06

But there are no pictures of them either... Shameful!

Interior photos and video can be seen at the following link. Additionally, a grey car is shown. Definitely looks better -- more sophisticated, more sinister -- when darker.

We need this car in the UK with RHD, I reckon it would sell better than people think. If Jeep can sell the SRT-8, then there will be persons that want a big engined saloon car too (me included)biggrin .
I'll have one please (also in grey)wobble

As far as I am aware, the Hellcat Charger only has two doors (please correct me if I am wrong) and I need four doors and the ability to seat 4 people when needed and I guess I am not the only one.
I love the Hellcat Charger but it is not much use for everyday/weekend family use but that probably doesn't bother most of you.
This has got to be one of the best saloon cars around.
