Has anyone taken a electric one apart ? would the small cog at the top be the same as a manual one would you think.

Barry,
Sorry, I have no idea whether the electric regulator drive cog would be the same as the manual one.
I would expect the electric one to be operated via teleflex cable or similar, driven by a linear actuator.

But your's is a rather more complicated part to reproduce than I was expecting.
I would have thought that Audi/ VAG would have used a cog stamped out of flat steel stock and. then possibly hardened, and kept it simple with a square centre drive, pressed onto the spindle.

Anyone got an old knackered Audi 80 Quattro?
With a driver's manual window regulator that winds up as well as down?
I believe that's what TVR stole it from?

OK ....There are 4 different door lift units, S1 run as a bowden cable set-up that then could have a electric motor fitted in place of the winder handle, (which gave the factory a option to have electric windows) this appears to be from a Renault circa 1985 ish ...I only say this as the development guy who I spoke to and was delivered a pair of doors to move the car away from using that unit to a bespoke TVR part said so! BUT in the meantime the cars were fitted with the obsolete Rockwell Golde cable units (this unit has a single sleeved but open tube that Golde cable runs into a plastic motor housing and the motor presses directly using 3 barbed fingers, where IF the window stuck the motor jumped out of the housing and fell to the door bottom! the factory/service mod was to ty-rap the motor into the housing. At this point (during the S2 era) TVR externally sourced the whole regulator assembly which ran until 2006 in all cars, this runs a Golde cable system (as the Rockwell system) along with a Bosch motor and has separate slider that keeps the window level (other TVR models have a limit stop that is adjustable with a screw driver from the inside of the door trim) on all S version the limit stop is the door frame which can be packed with rubber blocks as required), this unit can be retrofitted to the S, not an easy job, but it can be done!
Norman, I am now can supply a Golde cable to repair yours, give me a call. and am stocking the later bosch motor for R/H and L/H sides.

Barry,
Are there any maker's identity marks or part numbers on your regulator assembly?

Mecatechnic is an excellent shop-on-line, I bought some Motul Power 4000 oil 15W50 and picked it up from the shop, I live 15km from it.

Hi Barry,
I have not been able to work out a way to repair mine either - I have not found any on an Internet search but just looked on the Mechatechnics site you got yours from - searching on the part number doesn't bring anything up.
Did you speak to them or did you find it through the search function?

Thread resurrection.
Does anybody have a spare right hand Audi window regulator kicking about. I need it for the cassette that slides up and down the channel, as one of the lugs has snapped off mine causing the glass to tilt forwards when the window goes up.

The little tab on the nylon bush ? If so I found a carefully placed tywrap sorted the problem. It sounds a bodge but sorted the problem and is probably stronger than the original. Been like that years now.

Interesting stuff from Adrian though. Didn't realise there were so many different versions. The Audi 80 derived system on the S1 isn't the most effective!

Yeah, I'll probably repair it when I next have the door card off. It's just a small tab that's snapped off which should be preventing the glass from tipping. They probably weren't designed to be installed at such an angle with so little support from the glass channels.

Just a thought.

Working on the theory that the handle is basically Mk1 Golf, could the mech for the Audi80 be very similar to the golf ? Obviously they'll be different dimensions but the moving parts may be interchangeable? I can't believe VW/Audi wouldn't look for an opportunity to share bits where possible? There'll be more bits of golf around than bits of Audi 80.
