RE: Land Rover Defender by Paul Smith
Friday 20th March 2015
So this is the other end of what JLR's Special Vehicle Operations can do. Earlier this week the Range Rover Sport SVR was reviewed and now there's a one-off Defender, designed by Sir Paul Smith and created by SVO.
Land Rover Defender by Paul Smith
A reserved and modest farewell for the Defender? Not a bit of it!
Bespoke vehicles will also be part of SVO's remit with this car - in case you hadn't already guessed - built entirely to Paul Smith's personal spec. Outside there are 27 different colours, said to take inspiration from the British countryside and colours historically seen on Armed Forces Defenders.
The interior doesn't quite have 27 colours but does feature contrast blue stitching, a new Paul Smith clock and "lots of little hidden details." Again the intention was to ensure the Defender is unique. Certainly that...
Powertrain? That's rather missing the point. The Paul Smith Defender is here to enhance the image of both while ensuring the Defender is being discussed right up until its last day of production. You get the feeling they will probably succeed!

I don't know. I quite like some of that.
I don't like it as much as that pale pea green shade that they're doing the run out models in. That's a lovely colour.

Shame that most of Paul Smith clothes are not made in the UK and have not done for many years, yet is a darling of the UK fashion industry. Not sure I understand the fuss over his clothes and even less so over this defender that seems to have has a the Pantone colour chart thrown at it after a few beers.

Terrible.
The Paul SMith edition Mini though was brilliant.
Off topic, but I remember sitting in one of those in the showroom in 96 or 97 and thinking that who in their right mind would buy one of these piles of cack. The Paul Smith did look quite smart but scrapyards were full of rotten minis at the time and if I remember right, the new ones were not cheap either. The Paul SMith edition Mini though was brilliant.

Oh the creative design genius at work, er, paint it blue and put some leather seats in, I think Mike brewer and Edd China could have done that. The Paul SMith edition Mini though was brilliant.
As for the Lnady, it has the look of one recently restored with various secondhand panels that is waiting for a coat of Rustoleum, be nice when its done !
