McLaren 570S Coupe confirmed

First Sports Series McLaren is the 570S Coupe and now we get to see the 'flying buttress design'!

Nearly there now! Ahead of the final, proper reveal next Wednesday McLaren has announced a name for the first Sports Series model - the 570S Coupe.

There you go, you can have orange
There you go, you can have orange
As you might expect from McLaren, the naming strategy exactly mimics the models that already exist. So the 570S Sports Series model sits below the 650S Super Series and we can can surely expect Spider and Longtail version in due course.

Of course that name reveals a power output too. 570hp places the Sports Series almost squarely between the power outputs of the two Audi R8s, 10hp ahead of a Porsche 911 Turbo S and 3hp behind the Aston V12 Vantage S. Right in amongst it then!

The 570S will be shown in its 'beautiful yet aerodynamically form', flying buttress and all, next Wednesday evening at New York. Finally.

Cue for complaints about drip feeding of information and why bother. And lack of imagination in the name wink

Hope that butress design is useful aerodynamically, can't comment otherwise without seeing the integration into the whole design.

I love flying buttresses. There was a special edition of the original Lotus Europa which had them but I've never been able to find a picture.

I guess the Maserati Merak was the best example of that type of rear roof treatment?

Does anyone else think that McLaren needs to branch out from the 2-seater, mid-engined V8 formula?

Here it is. It looks like a Chinese copy of a P1. I understand they need to have a style for their range, but that just looks bad.

Indeed. Something like a SUV.

Big Mac seem to produce the same old stuff which holds little interest for me - P1 excepted, they just seem a little dull, much like the Audi R8 and Boxster. There is always something more desirable in the class.

You have to see it in real life before being to critical because it looks amazing, the pictures don't seem to capture it properly - it is like a mini P1, but only in a good way. Really well resolved design, taut shape and the rear is superb. It won me over!

Her it is folks.

From the article:
While pictures are grainy and low resolution, they show a stylish sports car that follows in the footsteps of the 650S and P1. The similarities might put some people off but the model has distinctively shaped doors with cutouts that channel air into the air intakes.
