Goodwood Festival of Speed line up announced

Moss celebrated, five F1 teams and a 28-litre (!) Fiat confirmed for the 2015 Festival

The clocks have gone forward, it's April tomorrow and the first Festival of Speed details have been announced - summer can't be far off now!
First LM victory 40 years ago this year

As always, there's plenty to be excited by. Stirling Moss's 1955 Mille Miglia victory will be marked 60 years on with seven of the eight Mercedes 300 SLRs ever produced on display. Moss will be reunited with chassis 0004/55, the car he won not only the Mille Miglia in but also the 1955 Tourist Trophy and Targa Florio.

The theme for this year's Festival is 'Flat-Out and Fearless: Racing on the Edge', a point rammed home by the Fiat S76, which will be making its first public appearance in more than a century. It was unofficially the fastest car in the world in 1911, reaching 135mph thanks to a 28-litre, four-cylinder (!) engine with somewhere around 300hp. Should be worth the entry price alone.

Expect more fun and games from the F1 teams

There will also be five F1 teams doing exhibition runs up the hillclimb, plus a Festival of Speed debut for Valentino Rossi. The 40th anniversary of Derek Bell's maiden Le Mans victory will also be commemorated, as will the 20th year of the Cartier Style et Luxe at the Festival.

Need more PH interest? But of course. The new Mazda MX-5, a car we're all clamouring to drive, will make its UK debut. And what could be more PH than an MX-5? Finally, Goodwood is promising its largest ever display of Americana this year. Hell yeah.

Fiat S76 'Beast of Turin' vid here. It's quite loud...

The Beast of Turin is magnificent. Preposterous. We must genuflect before its pioneering glory.

I love the way it pissed itself right outside Charles March's front door. Like a massive old senile St. Bernard biggrin

It's like a cartoon car. Something you could see a bad guy driving in a Studio Ghibli film. I wouldn't like to have to hand start that though...

Yes, that's what I was thinking: each piston has the capacity of an AC Cobra 427. yikes

At least a 27-litre Rolls Royce Merlin has 12 pots to make it a tad, err, smoother.

What a fabulous machine... Proper driving- noise, fire, fiddly controls, leaking everywhere and making people deaf, magnificent.

I'd wager a single run up the hill in that is more polluting than every other car combined at FoS, Su-Fu*king-Perb!

That's a pretty big engine.

Check out the industrial Warsila though.
That's almost 26,000L with 14 cylinders each one is over 1,800L!

Apparently there will be all sorts of Mazda stuff going on, 787b will be running over the weekend as well as Mike's redbull RX7.

I thought there was something wrong with the aspect ratio of the photo! But no it really is huge. That is immense, imagine if it was tuned to produce the kind of horse power per litre we enjoy today.

I suspect the laws of physics and the limitations of early 20th century metallurgy might throw some spanners in that plan.

Can you imagine the forces at work at even these low revs? evil

Clearly theres some NVH issues with this new Fiat, but it's obviously a step forward in engineering, and it's great to finally see something interesting in their range again.

Just fabulous, that beast... hot, noisy, red, chain-driven, spitting flames and hot oil - it's Satan's rotisserie on wheels! I would love to own something that loud, obnoxious and antiquated...

I wouldn't be surprised if Mad Mike brings his new 4 Rotor Twin Turbo MX-5 RADBUL, as it will be his most powerful and newest car, and tie in with Mazda's launch of their new MX-5. Possibly have him drift the new MX-5 up the hill too.

Doesn't Brighton have a series of speed trials down by the King's Arches, as well as the London-Brighton veteran run?

I missed this article first time round but found it searching for threads on the FOS as I've got a ticket for Sunday. Watching that Fiat video has double my already enormous excitement.
