Gordon Bennett! *
What a machine.....eek

I assume it needed the valves to be four per cyl, with just two it would have been impossible to get sufficient gas flow in and out of the combustion chamber due to limits on the diameters.
But OHC design in 1911 is pretty cool.
I wonder if anyone else had tried that before?

All credit to Duncan and his team for bringing the Beast back to life. bow

I wonder why a mad Italian hadn't risen to the challenge?
I also wonder what would happen if a drive chain were to let go at 135 mph yikes

* Google it! smile

VERY impressive! I see what you mean about the chains Glen, you will notice they both kept themselves inside the body line! I would love to see it in action some time, but I wont be at GFS.
It is worth going to the odd VSCC meeting to see some of the (later) aero engined cars running in anger. I was at Oulton when the 24ltr Napier Railton simply ripped the hub out of the wheel on acceleration.

Gor Blimey - I mentioned Gordon Bennett earlier today (Kebab Shop MOT thread), two mentions in one day on PH, what are the odds eh?

I love these Beasties. Fond memories of "The Ultimate Laxative" Napier Bentley racing Morgan 3 wheelers at Mallory. That and the 1905 Darracq hill-climbing.

Roll on summer!

O.M.G.!!!
Gary, I just had a look on that Kebab/MOT thread, and on page 1, somebody was berating the OP over his pitta ways!
Is this an uncanny coincidence, or are there sinister goings on that we doner want to hear about?

I popped down to Duncan's place a while ago, he kindly gave me a few "leftovers" after converting the S to V8 power, looking around I saw what I recognized as a piston on the bench... but it was the size of a waste paper basket! He nonchalenty pulled back a dust sheet to reveal the Fiat. I couldn't believe that something so rare and valuable could be in private ownership, thinking Fiat would have paid "whatever" for it sometime in its life to have it in their own collection.

For reasons of security I'll not tell you what else he has (although watching the video will give you a bit of an idea), or where they are, but trust me, he has some amazing "stuff" smile

Edit: Perhaps I should have said to google "1903 Gordon Bennett Cup" and "Gordon Bennett Races".
Interesting that these races were the origin of British Racing Green, ( known originally as Shamrock Green ) at a time when the speed limit in England was 12 mph.

Well Tim,
That's easy. One is -itish and the other is -ooklands!

Sorry, I have no idea whether there is a difference in shades.
Or is the Brooklands a metallic finish whereas British R.G. is a solid colour?

There are apparently 40 shades of green, which is 10 fewer than grey wink

...Brooklands racing green ...i think...was a term invented by Jaguar who used it for about a year in early 90's....I know because I trawled thought car images on the internet to find out what colour TVR used for mine.

...as I live in Norfolk, I later realised that is would make a good background for Lotus style mustard yellow...and stripy was born

A little earlier than Jaguar, in 1987-9, Ford produced the last Capri 2.8 Injection Specials, named them the Capri 280, and they were all painted "Brooklands Green".
Hence they became known as Brooklands Capris by us common people. This colour was a metallic finish.

An earlier possibility of the term Brooklands Racing Green could have come from the Bentley glory days of racing at Brooklands in their green ( non-metallic ) livery.

Who knows? All we know is that blue is the best colour wink

Ford only had enough paint for 500 Capri Brooklands, and in fact built a total of 1038. In order to make the paint last, it had to be watered down, meaning that the last cars were much lighter than the first ones. nerd

Is it still April Fool's Day? biggrin
Ford never actually built any Capri Brooklands, they were all Capri 280s.
And hardly any were used in hill-climb trials.

I call "fibber" on the paint, Ford could easily have had a new batch of paint mixed.
Unless TVR kept nicking their stocks to paint Andy's S.... smile

.. and of course to paint mine as well - I hope I didn't get that watered down stuff which TVR nicked from Ford !!

Seriously, thanks guys for the useful information. In my original owners handbook it says the colour is B/R/G and I'm still not sure if this is the "ooklands" or "itish" shade of green confused

Tim, do you have the paint code? ( Body code on your vin plate )
If so, you can check it out on the Useful Links wiki on here.
There is a list of some of the infinite choice of colours used by TVR.

Edit: The Wiki is on General TVR Stuff & Gossip, heading "TVR Paint Codes".
