Subaru Impreza: Pic Of The Week

A significant week for that Subaru on PH, so when better to revisit the glory days?

Alright, so the current fast Subaru saloon technically isn't an Impreza. But as discovered in this week's twin-test with the Audi S3, the WRX STI still has the capacity to entertain like all the best Imprezas should.

Alongside the German threat, Subaru can no longer rely on world rallying for sales success. Every car fan with their salt wanted an Impreza (or Evo, depending on alleigance) during the 90s and early 2000s, with McRae, Makinen, Burns et al capturing hearts and mind with their heroic drives. Alongside some magnificent road cars, it was a glorious period for the Japanese rally rep.

Despite the Imprez... STI's return, there's no denying those days are behind Subaru and Mitsubishi. But that doesn't mean they can't still be enjoyed, right? So for Pic Of The Week we have an Impreza and McRae striking their best pose. A great shot from Rally Australia and, best of all, an event McRae and Nicky Grist went on to win.

Some Legacy lunacy. biggrin

I recall seeing some (longer) McRae rally footage in the countryside.

Certainly does make it look easy. Erm, or did.
And got paid for it. Lived the dream. That's for sure. RIP

Big fan here. In fact, the reason I bought a 22B in the first place is the rally heritage. 7 years later, and having sold my car, I now realise what it was that I had, and am now missing it more than ever.

Forget the "new age" anonymous cars that all look alike. Nothing drives like the 22B with its raw yet engaging feel. It will be the next sports car in the garage if only I can find a good one.
