From a bit of research on here its all been asked and said before, but I still cant get the definitive answer for ME!

Ive got a rover V8 with mild tuning on the top end, not chasing BHP, but I want to clean up the engine bay and make it more 'reliable'

As the car is in bits I think this is the time to do it, so

All I want from the new ECU system is

No distributor, so coil packs
minimal amount of sensor pick ups, so water temperature Im assuming is a given, but not sure on the rest.
not wanting to have to mess with lambda sensors or any extra bits.
no stepper to worry about.
Not sure on the AFM system, or how to omitt it!

Ive looked at the CANEMS system, saw one on a SEAC at Burghley, looked to be a good option.
then there is the Emerald,Megasquirt to look at, and possibly the Omex system.

So please treat me as a dummy and win me over with your experiences of installations and running with these systems.

Thanks

Stu

Stu,

I had a KMS system fitted by Joo a few years ago and it was the best thing done to the car. You will not save much by trying to 'simplify' the fit as to get the best running from it (smooth idle, easy starts, nice to drive in traffic, smooth acceleration and of course MoT passes) then you will need a crankshaft sensor for the timing and one or two Lambda sensors to help it run right. There are more up to date things than the KMS about now and I am sure that others will soon be along to advise you!

Go for it.

Ian.

I went the emerald route. Really pleased with it. Its also very user friendly and really easy to navigate your way round it If yt feel the need to tinker yourself.

Which ever one you opt for you won't regret it. Nicer better running engine with up to date components instead of dodgy rotor arms, caps, amps etc.

have canems in the chim and i like it. quite simple to operate. get a idle valve and a wideband connected to canems and you will be fine.

With my MS I chose EDIS. Very reliable, easy to source parts and easy to use, install snd configure. No dwell concerns and even has a limp home mode.

I had MBE system fitted to my Griff 4.3, as it had been a complete unreliable pig for the last 4 years...... goes like stink 300bhp..... and starts every time, smooth running, and gives me total confidence that its not going to cut or stall..... 14cux cut out on overtaking and scared the F out of me as car coming in other direction as well

I had mine installed and set-up by TVR Power
